He isn't getting a pass. I think everyone is saying he needs an attitude adjustment and that if he doesn't tone it down, we need to evaluate our future with him. But Kelce has done dumb shit like this all the time too and I think he needs an attitude adjustment too. And his mistakes have been more costly. Doesn't mean I'm going to exaggerate how bad of a player he is. As Snr said, it's clear people can't separate hating the guy from hating his play on the field.

He's regressed this year. Couple that with his antics and you have a recipe for being disliked. I don't want him gone. I don't care that much about his antics, but they are quite annoying at times.

Apart from tackling, he has not regressed as much as you'd like him to have. That's the point. Separate performance from how much you like him. From a coverage standpoint, you have a ball hawking cb whose strength is taking advantage of mistakes - great in coverage, but lockdown? Probably not. There's no pressure up front so qbs don't make mistakes, he's asked to cover often for well more than 5 seconds, has no safety help whatsoever, and he's playing within a completely ineffective third down scheme that continually has him playing with an insane amount of cushion.

A lot of the regression is in people's heads. He isn't playing as well as in previous years, but there are a lot of much much bigger regressions on this team and especially the defense.

Lay off the crack pipe. He was a top 5 CB last year, he isn't even ranked in the top 30 this year

From a coverage standpoint? I said he has regressed but not as much as people want him to have. He's not top 5 because he hasn't tackled well. He's not a top 30 corner? Get out of there with that shit. I wonder how many in your top 30 would thrive in our defense. I would imagine most are on that list because of the pass rush.

How's this for regression?
Tackles in 2015: 60, Tackles in 2016: 45, Tackles in 2017: 41.
Interceptions in 2015: 8, Interceptions in 2016: 6, Interceptions in 2017: 3.
Passes Defended in 2015: 26, Passes Defended in 2016: 20, Passes Defended in 2017: 5.

That's clear regression.

a) 2017 is only 3/4 over
b) I'd be a lot more interested in his targets and PFF grades

You really see any of those getting appreciably better in 4 games?

How many targets? You can't make plays if QB's aren't throwing in your direction.

Sure you can you can run to the ball for instance these gifs we keep seeing of him dodging sticking his nose in a play. Never know if he lays a lick he jars a ball out or strips one. Instead he chooses to lay back and let the lesser's do the dirty work.

Are you going to take a look at our pass rush and not see the brutally obvious regression there? Who's going to get picks when your DL puts no pressure. And having less tackles for a cb isn't always a bad thing, although I agree that he probably has less support tackles

You want to talk about underwhelming Houston has been, how badly Jones, Bailey, and Ford have regressed, how much of a waste of money Logan, DJ, and Hali have been, how utterly worthless Gaines, Murray, and Zombo have been, I'll be your huckleberry. In another thread. This discussion is about Marcus Peters and how he's regressed both mentally and from an effort standpoint compared to his stalwart rookie year.

I don't have an issue with Houston. The point is, our biggest regression is that we aren't putting pressure. When we don't put pressure, our corners can't ball hawk. And it makes their jobs that much harder. Our regression in the secondary has a lot more to do with how much our pass rush has fallen off. Don't think many would blame our pass rush problems, on the other hand, on our corners. The pass rush is the symptom much more than the secondary.

Jones, Bailey, and Ford are regressing because they've been totally ineffective at getting push. Maybe some of that is scheme. But that is their own issue. A ton of any issues in our secondary can be blamed on another unit. For example, I don't think Mitchell has been terrible (apart from the deep ball) given how much is asked of him.
