Middle of the Day Bullshit: one of the worst things about the Peters trade.

One of the worst things about the Peters trade is how goddamn predictable this is all going to be.

Clark Hunt will say he deferred to the GM/HC.
Brett Veach and Andy Reid will both say that Peters is a great talent, never provide any reasonable explanation as to what caused this, instead saying things like "we saw an opportunity to make the team better" and leave the rest of us to speculation.
Peters himself will say a few veiled things that will largely leave the episode unexplained.

And then a few media guys will have """""a source""""" that will say something like "we caught wind that there was this heretofore unreported incident that tells us exactly what happened" leaving the rest of us to kick each other in the dick as to whether we take that shit seriously.

And we'll never know. Nobody will take responsibility for Dorsey/Reid drafting Peters thinking they could reel him in. Nobody will take responsibility for Reid and his staff failing to reel him in. Nobody will take responsibility for them theoretically doing all they could but Peters just being too goddamn big of a moron. Nobody will take responsibility for putting him on the block and getting probably a pathetic draft pick haul in return.

JUST ONCE, guys. Just once, wouldn't it be nice if they shot us straight.

Like this:

Quote:
"When we drafted Peters, we had sent Chris Ballard up to Oakland to meet his family and get to know him as thoroughly as we could. From that meeting, we came away with a comprehensive understanding of his fallout with the staff at Washington, and though that we could avoid some of those pitfalls here in KC.

Dorsey thought the risk was worth taking and pulled the trigger, and Reid and Albert Lewis worked their ass off to incorporate him into the culture here at KC. Our owner was not particularly happy with the cultural resentment that Peters protests brought, and Peters has had a few instances of unacceptable behavior in the locker room and on the field. In the end, the marriage just couldn't work.

That's why we're uncomfortable paying him $100 million, which he'll ask for and his on-field performance clearly demands. Clearly other teams agree because we could only really get one team interested in doing just that. Now that the trade is secured, we'll willingly say the return was less than his on-field talent demands, and we're going to have to do our best to overcome that.

All that said, LAR are getting a hell of a player and we hope Marcus can continue playing lights out while finding a way to discontinue some of his worst tendencies before he makes himself a poisonous commodity."
I have no idea how much of that is true, but god damn I'd sure appreciate being talked to like an adult who has willingly forked over hundreds to this team over the years, rather than a child that has to be managed.

But we never got the straight scoop on KeiVarae Russell. And we'll never get the straight scoop on Peters.

That's just the worst part of all of this, in my opinion.

It’s hard to believe only two teams were interested in him.

I mean, I am as critical of Reid and Chunt as anyone, but the whole league has the same read on Peters, that he wasn't worth trading a lot of picks for because they see him as too big of a risk to commit $100 million to.
And the Rams figure if they can get a SB in the next 2 yrs without actually having to pay no more than 9mil in his last yr of his rookie contract and then cut him because they don't want to pay him either because he will have screwed up enough by then, it was worth it to them.

But he will probably be a choirboy these next 2 yrs in an attempt to get paid but do the Rams really trust him with all that $$ in LA and very close to his homies with a Farrakhan attitude ?

How does it benefit them to tell exactly why he was traded? Why would any player want to play for a team that would throw a player under the bus like that when they're traded/released? Basically this whole complaint is stupid.

I agree with most of your post,Chiefshrink. Yeah, it'll all be groovy this year and next, but it really comes down to getting paid in 2020. I don't see him doing anything that's going to mess that up until the ink is dried on a mega deal. After that, all bets are off. If the Rams are a powerhouse, I think he keeps it in check, he likes to win. If they turn out to be a flash-in-the-pan, he's going to be a problem if they sign him long term.

No shit. It seems like everybody collectively forgot about his collegiate career. Peters is now 0/2 on teams that took a chance on him. Best of luck to him and the Rams. It is what it is.
