Yeah - I knew there was a reason. What a standup move by the guy to put his client's well-being ahead of his raw draft stock. He could've leaked the Chiefs interest to get teams looking to trade up to 5-6 and get him. That soups up his signing bonus and puts more money immediately in Steinberg's pocket.

Instead he recognized just how perfect the situation in KC was for his guy and kept that information under his hat. Really not something I'd expect out of an agent and pretty damn commendable.
And now not only will the career success of Mahomes most likely pay higher dividends, but if you're a team doing business with Steinberg - how much higher is the trust level and credibility today?

It makes me a bit curious, though, about how other teams react to that. I could see them saying, "Man, I thought we had a great relationship with Steinberg, but he didn't give us the opportunity to trade up for our player."

Granted, they may view it as a positive that he'll protect their information as well, but I could see some teams thinking that he wasn't looking out for them as much as he was KC.

Of course, what do I care? We got Mahomes.

But he also didn't do anything to give KC an advantage.

He simply kept everything in house and let the cards fall as they may. I would hope that would curry a fair amount of favor throughout the league. I gotta believe most GMs don't want to see potential players representations trying to manipulate outcomes. It may help them this time, but it'll burn 'em the next.

Yeah, in the big scheme of things you'd hope that they would keep everyone's information sealed. That would be the best way to do it. But I suspect that not every agent does that, and not every team will want to play by those ethical rules (cough Broncos cough).

But I agree, this is the way it should work.

Oh of that there is no doubt; I wouldn't say most agents do it that way. That's what makes Steinberg's approach particularly refreshing.

what agent and QB wouldn’t want to be developed by Reid? He’s got a pretty successful track record of doing just that.

That's if you believe the story.

More likely scenario: he told every team how much he wanted Pat to be drafted by them and all the teams believed him because he was telling the truth - he did.
