I would have liked Clark on the drum and then joined by Joe Montana and then Marcus Allen and then Priest Holmes and then Jamaal Charles. The crowd would lose its collective minds.

Couple things on Clark and the Pioli era he ushered in.
If I’m speculating a reason to take him off the hook for previously being aloof, and explain why he was so publicly emotional last week - self preservation. He runs a supposedly cursed franchise that can never get out of their own way. It’s expected that the abnormal will occur and keep them from reaching their goal. I mean, as fans, a good amount wouldn’t allow themselves to believe KC was going to win last week. So, until he knew that his team actually was going to compete for the trophy named after his dad, he just shot those thoughts down and didn’t get excited...so as to not get disappointed. Regarding Pioli, the end was awful, overall it was a completely misguided cluster****, but if you break it down into smaller chunks, and then analyze when Clark stepped in, he doesn’t come out looking so bad. Year 1 we clean house and start building the program. Double wins from previous year (not hard). Year 2 we win the AFC WEST. Year 3 is an epic backslide. Please note, we lost Berry in game 1. Started the season 4-3 but then went on a nasty losing streak which cost Haley his job. Then we immediately beat the undefeated Packers, take the Raiders to OT, and best the piss out of the Broncos in Denver. This looks like something you can *maybe* build off of. Year 4 is an unmitigated disaster, that regardless of SOC, ended with a starting player making headlines for murder/suicide. Not to mention Reid obviously going to be available from mid season on since the Eagles were also terrible. And when all that happened, Clark stepped in. So, where along that timeline should he have acted earlier? I’m not saying the Pioli era wasn’t a total fail (and I bought in at the start), but I’m not sure what else he could have done. Probably could have completely cleaned house after the Babb article as it was obvious what was to come at that point, but those last three games maybe made him hedge a little. Scott and Todd were equal parts crazy so maybe he just needed to evaluate a little longer. It’s fair to fault him there, but I can also see a reasonable justification for waiting. The best part of this (well, not really) Chiefs recovery from Pioli puts us in the Super Bowl in the stadium where Pioli works. I hope he enjoys watching. Piece of shit.

Here's the deal with Clark.
You can say he's cheap but it just ain't true. They spent money on all kinds of things, him and his dad both. Shawn Barber, Scott Pioli, 400 assistant coaches for Dick Vermeil, Alex Smith. They never had a problem spending money. Maybe they were a little overly loyal to Carl, yeah. But Clark's biggest problem was that he just wasn't the football guy his dad was in the beginning. He likes to hire and delegate, hire and delegate. He was just hiring the wrong guys with the wrong ideas. He finally hired a guy that wanted to get a QB. That's really all there is to it. Nothing more. I'll tell you this - hearing Clark on 810 yesterday morning gave me chills. This is OUR team, he's just taking care of it for us. |

The whole clark narrative is flipping. I think it was telling how much the older owners respected him early on.

I just don't think any of that is true.
Inaction does not equal "doesn't care". You work on cars, right? If your computer breaks down, do you work on it too? By the same token, if my car breaks down, I'm calling you. But I'll work on your computer any day of the week. Clark pays these guys MILLIONS to do what they do best, build and coach football teams. He's letting them do their jobs. He's trying not to be Jerruh Jones (which is a BAD thing). It's not that he doesn't care, it's that he's the Chairman, not the GM or coach. He hired other people to do that. I don't know how you can sit here and say he "ignored" the issues with Herm - he fired him after 3 years. He fired Scott Pioli after 4. He's absolutely TRYING. It just took him a little while to git gud. |

I read it as that was his PERCEPTION of hunt at that time. Now he realizes he was wrong the whole time. If that's the point I stand by my post. |

I'd love for nothing more than to watch the Chiefs win the AFC and the Super Bowl, I'll bawl my eyes out. And I'm sure Clark will be emotional too. And at the end of the day this is a business/investment for him. He's already won big by getting Mahomes. The value of this franchise has and will only continue to rise.
