Bieniemy got passed because his team is still in the playoffs, and there weren't enough head coach openings to get a team to wait for the guy they wanted. I suppose teams could have waited a week, but it shouldn't be expected that his team would lose in the divisional round. So there he'd be put off one just one more week, and then when if the Chiefs won again?

The Chiefs once had to hire their head coach in February because they wanted Haley. Teams rarely want to do that. It'd difficult to ask teams to wait for a full month like that without a head coach.

Teams do it all the time. If they really wanted him they'd have waited. I thought the Cowboys would be smart to hire him. It's odd considering Reid's OC's are commonly HC candidates and usually get gigs pretty quickly.

Just because teams do it doesn’t mean it’s ideal.

The truth is, the longer you wait the harder it is to put together a quality staff. Not to mention Bieniemy won’t be allowed to pluck from Reid’s staff.

Yeah Reid's OCs get HC jobs because they got credit for at least calling some of the plays. As far as I know Reid has never said EB has called plays.

I don't think teams care about playcalling experience all that much. At least they shouldn't, anyway. If you're doing the job of an offensive coordinator to a high standard of quality, you're already so invested in play design that calling plays on game day isn't something you're likely to **** up. If you're a shitty offensive coordinator, sure, I can understand that maybe.

Remember. Andy Reid has never once held the position title of "offensive coordinator." Not in college, and not in the pros. And he didn't call plays in Green Bay, either. That was basically Holmgren. He turned out okay.

But everyone knows EB isn't putting a game plan together. Nagy and Pederson weren't putting the game plan together either, but at least with those 2 Andy would say that they called all the plays that worked or called the plays in quarters or halves in which the O was successful.

Yeah, that was an incorrect statement. Andy Reid has said that EB (and Pederson and Nagy before him) is part of putting together the game plan.

You're giving Pederson a lot of credit. Most people believed Reid was calling plays for Pederson until well into his last year with KC. Incidentally, he ended up being a spectacular coach.

This is the smallest number of coach openings immediately following the regular season that we've had in awhile. With so many available candidates, the teams had the luxury of being able to find (apparently) good candidates not among the assistants still coaching into the divisional round and beyond.

I mean, that didn't stop the Giants from making a giant head scratcher hire, but then again, this is also the team that drafted Daniel Jones at 8.

hence why the nfl should only allow interviews after the super bowl. every team is on equal footing at that point
