I'm not sold on a lineup of 3 receivers with that skillset as the top 3 guys. You need to be able to diversify what your WRs do at least a little bit.

I don't want a big, slow, slant guy (Dwayne Bowe in prime) but they do need a little bigger WR, IMO, who can get off the line against press a little better than these types usually can.

That’s why Aiyuk is a better fit to replace Watkins IMO.

With his freakish long arms for a guy his size and RAC ability, he gives us a little something different from Hardman/Hill while still having the speed to challenge vertically like Sammy.

Disagree. Aiyuk is not a physical wide receiver in the least bit. He’s all finesse, and needs to be schemed open (although Andy does that well).

The Watkins comparison is a bad one.

It depends what you think his development will be.

What the ****? Watkins is a physical WR now? Where did I even use the word physical to describe Aiyuk? Are you ****ing reeruned?

The comparison I’m making with Watkins was simply that they’re more RAC guys with a little more size/length than Hardman/Hill. That and they still have the speed to challenge vertically. I said nothing about physicality. You don’t need to be physical to be good after the catch.

Yea, Watkins is a physical WR especially after the catch and when the ball is in the air. He also wins against press coverage.

If you’re looking for a Watkins type replacement, Aiyuk ain’t it.

I’ve heard it all now. Watkins is a physical WR! You’re an idiot. What’s he doing after the catch that makes him so physical? Breaking tackles and plowing through guys?

Plow through guys? Your description of physicality makes zero sense. Watkins wins in press coverage, bodies defenders when the ball is in the air, and rarely gets bumped off his routes or when the ball is thrown deep. He’s a contact guy.

Aiyuk isn’t a Watkins type receiver. At all. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t fit, or develop, but he’s more finesse than Hardman coming out.

Yes. Unbelievable to have such a high quality group. Our top WR’s from years ago like Bowe couldn’t even make this team as a backup. It’s crazy to have such a strength at a position. They sure have improved over Steve Breaston lol

Watkins is a top WR, and there is a lot of talk of the depth in the draft. So getting a top talent as his replacement will be a key part of our offense going forward. In the meanwhile, it provides yet another weapon for our General.

I understand the logic, but do we really need that type of guy?

Andy's pretty good at moving guys around and not many teams risk pressing us anyway.

I think you do.

It helps in the red zone. It also helps against those really physical teams that can press across the board, like New England. Watkins/whoever replaces him typically is facing the 3rd or maybe even 4th best DB a team has. If you have a guy who is skilled at beating press who also has speed, you get things like Watkins' put-away TD against Tennessee.

I still see Denzel Mims as the ideal sort of fit. He'd give them a guy who's really dangerous on fades (and KC has the personnel and scheme to make sure he's isolated outside with no over-the-top help in the red zone). But he's also quick and can gain early separation, and is a dangerous downfield option.
