Reid: Doors open for Fisher & Schwartz

this is where I'm at, but honestly I feel like Villanueva is about the same as Fisher except he won't automatically miss the majority of the season.

If Niang is slated as the starting LT, then it'll make Fisher the swing tackle

Fish may surprise us and be ready to go. its not impossible. Schwartz too.

I'd be down with Niang at LT, but clearly that was never the plan, given how hard they went after Trent Williams. I think the plan was clearly to use free agency on the OL and go defense/Wr with the first two picks.

Now we are probably looking at a trade up for a left tackle in the first round.

Yep. Niang at RT and the line is set. I’m sure we draft a tackle in the first few rounds, but they know how far along Fisher is and my guess is he’s ready to roll if not by week 1, shortly after.

This is obviously good optionality for us to have. It's why it was a relatively easy decision for the team in the first place to cut ties. We can't rely upon players we can't count on and have to move on. But if somehow they regain their health and want to come back, we then have a potential embarrassment of riches and depth on the OL.

Well put and you are absolutely right. It is a "dream" more than a "reality". The Chiefs needed their hands forced to replace the tackles with youth. NOW!

Actually, Reid today said it was the plan to have Niang play LT, just maybe not in the immediate future. He said they had "aspirations" of putting him at LT before he opted out.
