If I found a wallet with multiple names in it with that kind of cash, I probably walk away. Just feels weird and not worth getting involved. Another option is just keep the cash, but I agree that's not right. I would have done that before going to cops, though. Leaving it in the street leaves a CHANCE the owner gets it back. If I was that concerned I'd use the ID to track the person down if I could. Again, though, weird situation so I probably wouldn't.

Taking it to the cops not only makes me a part of the whole thing, but leaves me with nothing and the wallet owner is not going to go ask the cops if they have it. I mean I wouldn't think to do that and I DON'T have several names on various credit cards. Not to mention immigrants of even legal status are often unlikely to seek help from the cops. No great option but police would be the last (reasonable) option I would choose.
