What's your opinion on bowl opt outs?

Bowl season used to be a good time to watch NFL prospects for the upcoming draft.

Now it seems like any player with NFL prospects doesn't even play, opting out to avoid the risk of an injury.

Do you agree with this practice? It's now commonplace and accepted.

One aspect that isn't publicized enough is an NFL prospect bailing on their teammates. Imagine going through the program for four, five years, being a senior and then your best player bails. You want to finish your college career with a win.

I know college football coaches are scumbags and these colleges make a killing off these players but it just doesn't seem right to me.

These players chose to play a team sport. They decide to be an individual when it's convenient for them. Why bail at the bowl game? Why don't they put four games of tape on film and bail then? If the NFL and their bank account is what matters, what's the purpose of playing the whole regular season and getting an injury?

**** me culture. Does a team even matter anymore?

Both of those guys can **** off.

Let's generalize an entire generation of football players because things have changed and you don't like it.

"Treat this like a job guys....because this is what it is when you get to the NFL."

Players make a business decision to maximize their worth.

"You don't love the game."

If you attach mental health on anything these days, you can get away with murder.

You can get away with anything.....except actual murder.

Just because you don't believe that mental health is a valuable excuse doesn't mean that it isn't.

It is, but when you use it as an excuse because you know you can publicly get away with it. Thats when its cringe.

Kids growing up with social media their entire lives aren't dumb. They know how the masses will react to and how they can get away with certain things.

Bowl games aside from CFP are glorified exhibitions, so yes, opt outs are the right call.

I honestly used to hate the opt outs. But the jaylon smith injury changed a lot for me. And I know it wasn’t in a bowl game, but Marcus Lattimore should have been a top 5 back in the league for a long time. And on top of that these top coaches have no loyalty to the programs, so why should the players

It teaches exactly the wrong thing.

If I was a teammate of a guy that quit on us just because he might get hurt/might lose some money (the big assumption that they were going to be drafted and signed for millions, none of which is guaranteed), I probably would never speak to that POS again.

Hate quitters, most especially those that quit on me and my teammates. **** those guys.

No comment from Herbstreit on coaches “opting out” of coaching their teams in bowl games as they jump to new jobs.

This includes Brian Kelly who “opted out” of Notre Lame when they were still in contention for a CFP bowl.

But it’s easier for Herbie and other media blowhards to criticize players since they need to maintain access/relationships with high profile coaches.

Not for nothing, but when players get to the pros with that kind of attitude, it seems to carry over into their pro careers. Or just effects players.

How many players in recent memory have quit on their teams because "I'm not happy with my contract," or "this guy made me unhappy with something he said," or whatever nonsense we hear about every season now, a la L. Bell, AB, Andrew Luck, etc.

Quitters will quit on you, usually when you could use their help the most. **** 'em.

Luck’s situation isn’t remotely like AB’s or LeVeon’s.

Luck’s body was destroyed because of the Colts shit OL.

By his own admission, Luck was healthy enough to play, but chose to quit.

People are getting pissy about unpaid athletes opting out of minor league football's glorified exhibition games.

**** them.

I fully support athletes that opt out of these bowl game turd burgers to reduce the risk of them making multi-millions at the professional level.

People who have money invested in college sports - broadcasters, bettors, etc. are pissed because their product is now not as healthy. But they are getting paid, the players aren't yet.
