Alot of people are saying it is the coin toss they find objectionable. They hate that the game is decided on a coin toss, which based on the stats posted a bit ago seems to be somewhat relevant in the playoffs where the great offenses are shooting it out. How about making it a game stat metric like time holding the lead. If you have the lead for most of the game, especially if a team is making a comeback and gets a game tying field goal to go to OT, then why shouldn't the comeback team have to defend first. Seems as fair as any other reason that isn't luck of a coin flip. I can't think of anything in football that would equate to a jump ball and actually be somewhat fair.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

They blew Brady each and every post season he was playing. Now that someone younger and better is on the scene they can't wait for his time to be up.

Eat the whole bag, dicks...

Don't give these assholes anything. If you let both QBs possess the ball in postseason OT, pretty soon they'll still complain about the coin toss deciding the game because the team that wins the toss only needs a FG for a sudden death victory.

So if you make THEM score a TD, then it's "That guy got two chances to score a TD! Why didn't the other guy??!!!!"

Stop this shit right where it starts. The rules are perfect.
I agree.

If both teams get a possession & it's still tied someone's eventually getting an extra possession unless you turn it into tennis or volleyball needing to score & stop which is asinine.

What about the other 8-10 possessions they had in regulation?

Both teams had plenty of chances. At least the rules aren't gimmicked up like college where the nature of the game materially changes as soon as you go to OT (no return game, already in FG range, etc).

Josh Allen is probably my second favorite QB behind Mahomes. He’s always giving us props and understands things. Mad respect to him

Man, these ARE the revised overtime rules. Remember when it was sudden death?
Win toss.
Get to their 35.
Kick field goal.
End of game.

This is harder/more fair.

I get it from a purely entertainment standpoint.

I had the thought at the end of the game even before any of the TV heads said something about it: "man, wouldn't be crazy if Allen got a chance to go out there and show off his stuff as well?"

I mean what if they both just kept scoring? back and forth over and over, until finally someone blinked. you got it admit, it would be the wildest kind of OT we've ever seen (outside of baseball, but bb doesn't really count).

But from a practical standpoint, some huge percentage of the time what it would lead to more often than not is more serious injuries. Exhausted players get hurt more seriously than fresh players. It's just a thing.

I would like to see them try to give the other team a legit shot, but I just don't know how they'd make it work.

the only way you could tweak it from here is make the team that gets the first TD, score on a two point conversion for the game to be over. otherwise the other team gets a chance to score their own TD and 2 point try

Allen did have a chance to possess the ball in OT…. exactly a 50% chance.

theoretically only. In reality, a real world study with millions of flips showed a fraction of a percentage advantage for tails side vs heads in coin flipping due the fact the heads side is raised weighs slightly more. Thus, the Chiefs actually had less than a 50% chance and still won. Apparently “tails never fails” isn’t quite accurate.
