When we were 3-4 in week 7 and got our butts kicked by the Titans it did not even look like the playoffs were a possibility. If someone had told us that week we were going to lose in the AFC title game in OT I think most of us would have taken that.

See, people think I'm pessimistic, and when we were in the spot I said we were running out of tarmac to meet our expectations. By that I meant all expectations were still intact, but urgency was on the table.

People derided me for that assessment, then it turns out in the honesty of hindsight, they were more pessimistic than I was.

Only in the sense that for a pro sports team, any year you don't win the championship is kind of a "failure". Overall, as others have said, it's really hard to make it to one SB, let alone 3 in a row. We got one already and should be in contention for at least the next decade. 5 years ago everyone here would've done weird shit on a room full of construction workers for that to be the case. It's fine.

Every AFC team for the last 3 years has been laser focused on beating the best team in he Conference, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bengals did that. Play this game 3 times, I think the Chiefs win 2 of 3, but we don't get to do that.

Every season that ends in a real chance at the Super Bowl is a successful season. Yes, Patrick says anything less than the SB is a failure...for the players that is correct. But for us fans, we are one of the best teams in the entire league and will be for many years to come.

Don't worry, in a couple years Mahomes will take up 15-20% of the salary cap and our expectations will lower to a few Russell Wilson-style highlights a year and scouting young scrubs for diamonds in the rough.

Or you could get lucky and Mahomes has a decent-sized injury and we can spend a season just having a laugh.
