Agree with this one here.

All about what the Jaguars ask for in return.

I could probably be talked into a 3rd.

-You're not finding a WR in the 3rd that's getting meaningful time on the field in Season 1, maybe even season 2.

-He has the two learning curve years behind him and is going into the typical breakout season for a WR.

Really depends on if they want to be competitive this year, or just accept the down year and build for the future with picks.

At 23 years old, I feel like LS accomplishes both (win now and future)

103 is about as high as Id go….and then I’d want a 5th or 6th back from the Jags since we don’t have one.

Nah. They can have #135.

You can draft Calvin Austin at #103, and I'd rather do that.

In this draft I think you can.

Either one of two things - someone who can really make a contribution in year 1 (say Alec Pierce) or someone who MIGHT be able to make a contribution but could ascent do legit WR2 status as early as 2023 (say Jalen Tolbert).

Now none of those are a given at the end of the 3rd, but they're a possibility.

And then there's my new favorite draft crust, Calvin Austin, who will do both of those things. Because he's a badass.

I just think it's a big ask. Pretty rare that a WR outside the first 15-20 makes an immediate impact, much less after 90.

If Nate Taylor is right, Andy plans on JuJu in the slot - which means our WR1 at the moment is Hardman, LOL.

Hell, we have enough picks that I'd be ok trading for TWO active WR's if we could.

That's not true. Plenty of great receivers come in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds.

Tons of busts in that first round, too.

And this is an unusual draft, because of Covid. Lots of guys that would've come out last year waited a year, which makes the draft that much deeper.

Reid’s offense isn’t like other teams offenses though. We aren’t sure that a rookie WR can step in outside of Hardman. And Hardman wasn’t out here running the entire playbook.

Very true.

It was just a few months ago when our current WR1 couldn't get on the field and was being passed over for Byron Pringle.

You're right, plenty of great receivers come from those rounds.

My point was, how many of them make an immediate impact?

Let's look at last year.

34 WR's taken.

3 made an immediate impact with their team: Chase, Waddle and St. Brown - and it took St. Brown 10-12 games and he had little competition for targets.

The other two were taken in the Top 6.

How about 2020?

37 WR's taken.

Outside the 1st round, Pittman arrived this year, did nothing his rookie year. (was also 2nd pick of the 2nd round)

Higgins is the Day Two/Day Three darling, he's had a great start to his career.

Claypool has been solid, yet unspectacular - also a earlier pick - mid 2nd.

Gabe Davis and Mooney showed up at times this year, but did nothing in their rookie years.

That's 5/37.

I'm looking at years beyond 2020, and the story is the same - it's extremely rare for a rookie WR drafted beyond the 1st round (and especially in the 3rd/late) to make a substantial impact Year One - and most of those guys are STILL trying to make it a year or two after being drafted.

Oh, and there are 31 other teams trying to find these needles in the haystack.

FTR, I'm fine with drafting WR's - but be prepared for a down year or two while they come up to speed. They're going to need to make a trade for a real WR if they wanna be in the mix THIS year.

I might go a 4th but no higher. Given the Jaguars wr signings, they have no plans for him. They want to move on from him. Sure he has athletic upside but he has not put it together. He was on on a shitty team but he was still really unable to even make it on the field the last two years. He looks like a 2nd round bust. A third is too valuable.
