When were you “sold” that this team could make it back to the Super Bowl?

I always wondered what the Super Bowl bye week might feel like growing up. Now we all have had 3 over the last 4 years. In the 2019 season I was such a mess of nerves and was going crazy with the wait. The next year, I was having health problems and was a new Dad, which made that whole playoff run and COVID year a blur.

This year, I’m just trying to bask in the glow - and that’s exactly what this thread is. When was the moment you were sold that this team could go all the way? Check my spoiler’d answer below.

Spoiler!

NOTE: I totally accept the always correct answer that’s “we have Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, we ALWAYS can go all the way.”

Facts. Trent coming back was a big deal. It allowed Spags to have Sneed follow the WR1 around, have McDuffie play the slot more consistently, which gave Spags the ability to call split safety looks a lot more often. Basically gave the defense a lot more flexibility about what coverage/schemes/alignments they could use.

But Toney gives the offense a whole other gear, makes it much more explosive than it is without him.

After the 2018 AFCCG loss to the Patriots I posted

As long as PMII is QB, the AFCCG is the floor for this team.
I stated that again on 09/09/2022 in some prediction thread and got this reply from QJOE

This isn't 2018 anymore. The difference between Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Russ and Herbert is tiny and prime Tyreek Hill and Kelce are no longer around.

KC will be competitive, but they're rebuilding right now and may not even make the playoffs.
The difference between those QB’s is tiny.

This season, I never felt the Chiefs were out of contention. Schedule opened rough, softened after the Bengals. Knew the team (QB) would lift them in his shoulders if need be.

Took me about a week to mourn the loss of Tyreek Hill, then I got pretty confident even before the season started. I think seeing Skyy Moore and Pacheco in the preseason did it for me. I distinctly remember I had to excuse myself to go to the restroom and change the condom I always wear in case of excessive excitement.

I will also say, I felt very confident once we won that #1 seed. Playing an extra wild card game, then playing back to back games with either buffalo or Cincinnati would have made for a grueling playoff run. I said before that I think cincy blew their wad on the buffalo win. I guess beating buffalo in the playoffs is a hell of a dopamine rush.

In preseason, as evidenced by this post.

Super Bowl champions with somewhere between a 16-4 and 18-2 record overall.

This team is going to be REALLY GOOD. You are going to REALLY LIKE THIS TEAM.

I just read yesterday that the future state of KU BB next year could be far worse than being the defending champs, then right after I'm done worrying about the Super Bowl, gonna really dig into free agency and find all the reasons the Chiefs won't make the playoffs next season!

I'm always sold the Chiefs can make it back to the Super Bowl, as long as Patrick Mahomes is the QB.

KC is two overtime losses away from being in the Super Bowl every year he has been the starter.

It was probably during that stretch where McDuffie was out and the other young guys in the secondary didn’t look overwhelmed. Add to that PMII’s obvious new level of mastery and I knew we were in that conversation.

I think we can say Mahomes is the Greatest of All-Time not just Chiefs QBs but AFCW QBs in general.
