Andy Reid, then and now.

This was a post from 2015 responding to how Denver wouldn't be Denver the next year. Some interesting notes on Reids coaching and decisionmaking here.

Andy Reid will be personally responsible for at least a quarter of the season's worth of losses once again due to his complete lack of ability to call plays relevant to the current situation.

Should I go for it on 4th down or punt for 17 yards of field position like against San Francisco?

8 years later and still doing the surrender punts. So, this isn't likely to stop.

Run the ball? Sounds hard.

It's a lot more defensible now that he has the best qb on the planet, but there are times in big games where running the ball could have turned things around. Superbowl 55 and the AFCCG second half meltdown to the Bengals come to mind.

We're up 28 points in the 3rd quarter of a playoff game? Keep throwing.

Could that horrific Colts loss be the catalyst for why we pump the brakes so hard and play terrible offensive football when we are ahead now?

Jamaal just busted his biggest run of the season on the opening drive of the third quarter? Give him 4 more carries the rest of the football game.

We see this happen with Pacheco. Clyde coming into the game to run the football, it just never makes sense.

Kelce keeps making big plays when he's on the field? Sub in Fasano.

This is now happening with Rashee Rice. I swear anytime the kid makes a play he's riding the bench for ten minutes.

1st and goal at the 1 inch line? TIME OUT!! TIME OUT!! Gotta think this over. What the hell play can I possibly call here? Can we take 2 timeouts in a row? I really need the time here......

Ah look. He sucked at short yardage back then too. Cool.

Alex Smith will continue to be the same "safe throw or sack" QB he has been. In combination with Reids complete and utter stupidity on gameday at times, this simply will not overcome that. This is how you lose to the dregs of the NFL.

We've lost some laughers, but not because we have a safe throw or sack qb. Colts last year, donks this year, and we've played down to some terrible teams in the Mahomes era.

Reid's been doing this for nearly two decades, peeps. Just as his atrocious eating habits are destroying his body and health with no changes forthcoming, the dumbshittery of this lardass will continue to destroy the playoff chances of the Kansas City Chiefs.

What a difference having the best qb that ever lived makes.

Some interesting things there, like I hadn't remembered he was so bad with short yardage and took timeouts on the goal line.

The surrender punting Jesus Christ I mean maybe you can justify that because you have zero faith in Alex Smiths parallel to the line of scrimmage passing attack to get it, but to continue this with Mahomes? Come on. Now.

Taking the young guys out of the game right after a big play....I just don't get it.

Maybe the most interesting is that loss of aggression with the lead. Because up 28 on the Colts, his continuing to press the attack and failing allowed all those free clock stoppages and allowed the Colts the time to come back.

For the most part, he's the same dude doing the same dumb shit he was doing 8 years ago, he just has a better qb now.

I guess I don't have that aw shucks, it was a good try tho outlook.
You are right on that at least.

Yes, I'm pleased with 2\3 SB's and 3\5 AFCC, and plenty of reason to believe that there will be more to come. The fact that you are not says a lot about you. You have no skin in the game except passion, which I appreciate...but you are solidly unrealistic. Why didn't the Patriots go to and win the SB every year? Because they play in the NFL, there are injuries, down seasons, disappointing drafts and in game mistakes. You don't seem to be able to accept that reality.

I don't know how old you are, but you honestly sound very young to me. Not an insult, just a statement of fact.

So the new hot take is every year we have Mahomes and don't win a SB its a less than ideal outcome because he is capable every therefore its obviously because of Andy Reid we didn't win the SB.

And when we win the SB Reid just did what he is expected to do.

You're correct in saying that Andy has flaws. But people are disagreeing with you because you are judging him in a vacuum. Every coach has flaws. Do you judge yourself with the same rigidity?

What year was Alex Smith's best statistical season? What happened the following year?

How many superbowls has Aaron Rodgers won? Dan Marino? Both generational talents. Both had coaches not on par with AR.

And are you equally pleased with the losses? You sure don't sound to irritated about them.

The fact that you are not says a lot about you.

It says I expect the alleged legend to get the job done when he has mote than enough talent to do so. First half shutouts to Bill Belichick don't qualify. Fortunately, Andy has Dee Ford to make people forget the first half he pissed away.

You have no skin in the game except passion, which I appreciate...but you are solidly unrealistic.

I'm, unrealistic, yet here you are expecting more to come while being pleased with what you've seen. While you bask in the warm glow of the unknown future and all the superbowls we will win that will make these past squandered opportunities just fade into the ether, I think I will go ahead and be a bit more realistic and acknowledge that it is ENTIRELY possible for the Chiefs to never win another superbowl under Andy. He certainly provides enough questionable calls and gaffes to raise the difficulty level.

Why didn't the Patriots go to and win the SB every year?

Only so many ways to cheat?

Because they play in the NFL,

Thanks for clearing that up.

there are injuries, down seasons, disappointing drafts and in game mistakes.

Like....getting shut out in the first half, against a defensive coach? How about squandering timeouts and repeatedly calling passes into 8 man coverages?

We had injuries and drops in SB55 so he gets pass there overall, but can't overlook that he poked the bear at the end of half with a timeout when the bucs were conceding the rest of the half and we'd go in down one score and get ball in 3rd. 2 spot fouls and a score later, his terrible offense is now forced to be one dimensional and the rest is history.

So yes. In game mistakes have cost Andy a lot. For decades. But he's the same guy. There is no mirror. The only changes are the players.

You don't seem to be able to accept that reality.

Sure. Let me come check out your alternate universe where despite doing all this dumb shit, the Chiefs are gonna win more Superbowls without correcting the dumb shit.

I don't know how old you are, but you honestly sound very young to me. Not an insult, just a statement of fact.
I was 15 when Joe shamed Buddy Ryan in the Astrodome. I was 37 the next time they won a playoff game.

I'm aware of the "dark times". Just because you win a lot of regular season games doesn't mean dumb shit doesn't get you beat in the big ones.

It's not just Andy when we don't win SB with Mahomes. But it most certainly not Mahomes' fault when the talent isn't there either.
