Omenihu was a huge part of KC’s defensive surge, recording 7 sacks and 2 FF in 11 games — and had a strip sack on Lamar Jackson that resulted in a turnover vs Baltimore.

Anyone know what FAU's highest snap count for any game this year was? I'm just curious because I see some saying take the training wheels off him but I'd be really surprised to see Spags use him much considering they've had him inactive during the playoffs.

Luckily, the injury situation isn’t even close to what it was agains the Buccaneers.

We forget that Mahomes had that toe injury for that one too. It’s gets lost because he was Superman behind a garbage OL full of backups.

Allegretti is more than capable at LG for this game. Willie Gay should be back.

We’ve been playing without Cook long enough and been really good regardless.

Our injury situation isn’t great obviously, but that part worries me little.

If injuries pile up in this game, sure that’s an issue. That could go either way though.

But don't get too cocky, its a team sport where even sorry ass Jimmy G was able to make things interesting last time around... yeah different teams, different players now I get that too

All the knowledgeable gurus in here are scaring me with how disappointed they are over this, obviously not good, but whats an honest take on how much this impacts us? Is the Super Bowl worth throwing the rookie in or does it make sense to sign someone with experience for one game or even longer? Does the freshly drafted DE stand a chance against SF O-line?

If he does, it won't be because of Omenihu or even Thuney.

Allegretti can stand in and play competently (hell, he was genuinely good in a brutal matchup against Madubuike yesterday) and Danna had a career year this year. With no more games to play and a week off, Danna and Karlaftis can empty the tank.

The injuries we've had are irritating, but they don't move the needle a ton. We can overcome both of them.

If the OTs play like they've played thus far in the post-season, Mahomes will have time. If Mahomes has time, we'll move the ball. The defense will keep SF below 24.

If you tell me 27 wins it against a damn average 49ers secondary - I'll take that with Mahomes under center 100 times out of 100. And honestly, with the way this defense has played, 20 could very well be enough.

It's certainly disappointing. Definitely weakens a great dline. But we just shut down two more explosive offenses in large part due to the secondary and linebackers. Just no more injuries please.

The 49ers offense as a whole is better. CMC wasn't there last time. Deebo was a rookie. Aiyuk was in college. This is a MUCH better offense than they had last time.

But our defense is much better than last time. This matchup of our defense vs. their offense doesn't worry me more than the last matchup of our defense vs. their offense did.

And while our offense isn't as good now as it was then, I believe their defense has stepped back even more than our offense has.

If this were Madden Off/Def/STs ranking, I'd say:

2019: Chiefs - 95/80/90 for a 88 overall vs. 49ers -- 85/94/90 for an 89 overall

2024: Chiefs -- 88/95/91; 90 overall vs 49ers -- 90/85/90 for an 88 overall

The parts/pieces have moved around a lot but when evaluating the Chiefs I would say our offense is better than the 2019 defense was and this defense is as good as the 2019 offense was. On balance, we've improved. The 49ers offense, because I don't think Purdy is truly excellent, has not improved as much as the 49ers defense has regressed.

I think the 49ers had a better team in '19 than we did but they got outcoached. This team has a better team than the 49ers, IMO - and won't get outcoached.

I'm more worried about the Super Bowl than next season and beyond. Omenihu is important to this defense against the 49ers. A 3rd Super Bowl cements a dynasty. Dealing with next season's issues will be easier with another title.

Besides, the defense is unlikely to improve in 2024. They peaked this year with talent being paid way below league averages. Many on rookie contracts.

Agree with all this, except I’d lower their ST grade a bit. Rookie kicker with very limited exposure in the Super Bowl. He’s missing one in this game I’d bet.

The paper favors the Chiefs right now imo, but paper doesn’t fully account for Mahomes in this game.

49ers outplayed the Chiefs in that Super Bowl for a good portion of the game. Then guess what? QBs have to make throws. Ours did. Theirs didn’t.

Wouldn’t surprise me if that happened again (one QB making the throws that are needed, but I’d be surprised if we got outplayed for much of this one).

So yeah we agree on the bulk of it here, both teams strengths and weaknesses have basically flipped

My money is on KC of course, but anyone expecting anything other than another nailbiter - even against Mr Irrelevant - are likely to be let down, we'll have to keep scrapping until the bitter end again IMO
