Nate Taylor: Chiefs targeting OT Ronnie Stanley in free agency

Quote:
When free agency begins, the Chiefs will target Ronnie Stanley, the nine-year veteran who is the best left tackle available on the market, according to sources. Stanley, who will turn 31 this month, started all 17 season games last season for the Baltimore Ravens. He earned a 70.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and allowed just three sacks.

The thing that worries me a LOT about Stanley is how unique blocking is in that system. Robinsons tape translates far more seamlessly to KC than Stanley's does.

I still think I prefer Robinson - especially when price is considered.
When healthy, Stanley has the skillset to thrive in any system. He truly is a fantastic tackle.

Price and risk are the biggest factors there.

Make no mistake, Stanley would fit here.

Seems entirely logical, it never made sense going into the season with absolutely no experience at the position, no matter how good Reid and Mahomes are. It just never seemed like something they would do. I bet they thought Smith would be cleared much sooner than he was.

Possible his medicals never checked out the way KC wanted. Isn't his issue neck/back related? That stuff can be very touchy.

I do think Stanley is the only guy in this group that if at his ceiling, you could put on an island and not worry about.

NE has $125M in cap space without making ANY other moves to free up space.

The only way we don't lose is if they give up interest, or Stanley just doesn't want to go there.

As we see every March, guys will go to a shitty team over a good one for way less than you'd think.

As was called out earlier in this thread, we won't beat the Patriots in a bidding war if they are at all serious. They have infinite cap room. Would guess they want to solve LT and have their options open with the 4th pick.

I'm not overly excited about pressing the "more" button until he says yes but.....shit it just may be what they have to do.

That only applies when a team with less cap space is not motivated.

We are very motivated to win this and can free up 70 million more .

Unfortunately that goes for multiple teams on the top of the cap space list. And most of them have franchise QBs they want to protect. I’d love for this to work but I don’t think we can win a bidding war.

They're still only going to be willing to go so high, and if we just keep upping them eventually they will concede. I'm dead serious, this is one of those times you just don't lose. We let it happen twice now, both with Williams and OBJ. Simply cannot do it anymore.

There isn't going to be a tackle like Stanley available again for God only knows how long. If he actually does hit the market, you simply do not allow him to sign anywhere else. I know that sounds simplistic, but that's because it is. Kick money into future seasons, add void years, whatever, we're in great shape with the cap long term and can afford to do so.

You either pay whatever it takes, or you keep watching Mahomes be 75% of what he could be. No amount of money is worth that continuing.

If we are willing to go top of market we have the advantage of being the Chiefs.

A SB contending team every year with Mahomes while NE is rebuilding and has little in the cupboard besides Maye on offense.

Paying top of the market for a guy that has missed 40% of games in the last 6 years makes me feel like this is a bad idea.

Cam Robinson doesn’t have a clean injury history either… not as bad as Stanley though.
