In a free and open society, you cannot prevent this kind of thing. The only way for a free society to discourage terrorism is to make the retribution so overwhelming that terrorists are not willing to pay the cost.

If you are going to back down if the trail leads to China or Russia or a multi-billionaire, you might as well save the rhetoric and just hunker down.

Let me be clear: I do not want war with China or Afghanistan or Yemen or any other country in the world. But I realize that if you are [u]not[/u] willing to go to war with any and all countries harboring terrorists, you are impotent and should save your resources for rebuilding and burials.

This is where we will fall short, IMO. We are not willing to make enemies of the entire world if that is what it takes to keep our people safe.

Hey, I understand how it is. My family moved here from Iran in 1979. We were ironically forced to move out of the country because our religion was not Islam, so the "fundamentalists" who had started taking power were persecuting us more, throwing us in jail for no reason, etc. So we were forced to leave the country otherwise we may not be alive today. Of course we get here, and it was right about the time they took the American hostages in the embassy, so damn if I didn't get a lot of crap growing up in KC those first few years. Then we had the Saddam Hussein pull off his buffonery, and we got crap from people even though we're not Arabs and had nothing to do with Iraq. I'm walking down a street for example, and this guy walks up and points his finger at me like it's a gun, and goes "bam" like he's going to come back and shoot me. Great.

So I'm used to it. It is sad, but I'm used to it. Hopefully some idiot doesn't decide to go out there and gun us down, trying to "clean up his country of all the terrorists."

Bob Dole is fairly convinced that we'll find no country to blame for this act of cowardice. That's what leaves one feeling so impotent about the whole situation.

Bob Dole is with the folks that say whoever harbors these b@stards becomes the enemy, and in Bob Dole's world, they've got about 2 hours to give them up before they're smitten.

The sad part is, as soon as the shock wears off, we're going to have factions among us arguing amongst themselves about how to proceed. Bob Dole is going to attempt to stay out of it.

I think that even China and Russia will fully understand if we do retailiate against one of their "allies", if they are found to be responsible for this.

As far as those celebrating Palestinians, I'd treat them as I would someone who laughs in my face after one of my loved ones is murdered.

That's easier said than done. IMO anything you do short of going to the source only strengthens their resolve. Remember, these guys are wackos who think God is reserving a place for them up there in his court for doing crap like this, so they pretty much welcome death. The only way to slow it down is to go right to the source and elimitate it, and the only way to stop it is to educate ignorant people...

25 nations had offices in the WTC buildings. The world economy will be affected from this...not just the US. I think We may be able to russel up some support.

We can financially and or militarily cut the legs out from under any Foe who gets in our way.

Its Time for us to "call in some payback" from the many many countries we've rebuilt, defended with blood of our brothers, fathers and friends, fed in famine, doctored from disease, and protected from oppression. The Mayor just reported that all of these closings have been voluntary and at the discretion of the corporations. The school districts have not closed, but have given the parents the option to pick up their children.

The Governor just reported that there is no threat as of this time to Texas. Texans should continue with their normal schedule.

Bob Dole is most likely correct...We have all seen it before to lesser degrees...No political or country affiliations so we do nothing...That is horse $hit...If you allow them in your country then you are affiliated and are condoning this action. If you don't do everything in your power to bring them to justice then justice should be served on your whole country...

After a few days of the masses going on with their lives they will conveniently forget about the lives that were taken and say "we shouldn't kill more innocent people by bombing certain countries...blah, blah, blah..." Before you start saying that, just pretend it was your children and family member in the WTC....

We have to set a precendent that ANYONE who contributes to a terrorist groups ability to function is held fully accountable..
