He was FIRED for his meddling. He went to the Spanos family and the Spanos family fired HIM instead of A.J. Smith.

IF Lamar Hunt would have fired Marty before the 1998 season, the Chiefs may have had a very different season.

San Diego was WISE to not make the same mistake, regardless of this season's outcome.
