I'm not saying that he isn't a great quarterback. I just think that those who are saying he is the best ever (and there are an increasing number of them) are overrating him just a tad.

And, yes, he is surrounded by an excellent team and great coaching staff. Put him on the '77 Buccs and see how he does. Let him bring even a mediocre team to a big win, then call him amazing. (Maybe he'll do this some day, by the way -- if he has a career as long as Elway, Favre, and Montana, he's bound to play for a mediocre team someday.)

He is an excellent quarterback.

But I'm not even sure he is the best QB currently playing, let alone the best EVER.

Remember, "EVER" is a very, very long time.

I guess that, to me, it just depends on how you define "best." If we're talking about raw talent, I'd take Manning any day. But if we're talking about ability to find ways to win games, Brady's my choice without blinking.

I don't think Manning is "raw talent." The guy controls the offense like few other players can.

I think Favre is better at finding ways to win games.

Prior to this year, his teams were by no means elite. He's got an excellent team this year, but he's never had an elite WR before this year, and he's already won already won three superbowls.

He's probably not the most talented QB to ever play the game, but he's got to be one of the smartest. I won't crown him the best ever yet, but he's getting pretty damn close.

Fixed your post. I don't know how you can be the best but not be the most talented. Smarts is part of talent. Larry Bird wasn't the most athletic, but he's one of the best all-time.

It's not like he was surrounded by great talent in his first 3 Super Bowl wins. His receivers were Troy Brown, Deion Branch, David Patten, David Givens and his TE's were Daniel Graham and Christian Fauria. He did have Dillon at RB in 2004, but before that the RB's were Antowain Smith and Kevin Faulk. None of those players with the possible exception of Dillon are difference makers and most of those players were just run of the mill, journeyman players.

Which QB, exactly, would be all that with the '77 Bucs?

Brady is EASILY top 5 ever. By the time he's done I think he'll have secured the best ever title. I have no idea what QB could succeed with no other talent around him...

Couldn't you say that about other great QBs? Manning has been surrounded by talented receivers for years and Tom wasn't but still won.

He already did take a mediocre team to the super bowl. At least twice.
