George Lucas lost his mind long ago

George Lucas' Indiana aliens

George Lucas' Indiana aliens
George Lucas wanted to call the new 'Indiana Jones' film 'Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men From Mars'.

The film's producer had his idea firmly rejected by actor Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg as the three men struggled to reach an agreement for around 10 years.

Spielberg said: "There was a point where I thought George and I would never agree on the story, and I was fine with that.

"George and I are best friends, and we always argue, and we always debate. That's been the nature of our relationship since we met in 1967."

'Star Wars' director Lucas had commissioned Jeb Stuart - who wrote the script for 'Die Hard' - to write his version, which saw Indy go up against Russian agents and had a climatic battle scene between the US army and alien flying saucers.

Ford added: "It takes time to get Steven, George and me on the same page. George is very stubborn with his ideas."

'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is released on May 22.

You have to applaud his conviction, no matter how misdirected it appears.

They made the right decision, in my opinion. Saucer Men From Mars sounds a lot like Saucer Men From Venus.

Well, yeah, as long as the craziness eventually leads to something brilliant again. How long has it been since Lucas did something worthwhile?

I guess that depends on what you consider "worthwhile"?

Empire Strikes Back?

Droid (which became Avid and revolutionized movie editing forever)?

Skywalker Sound?

I.L.M?

Pixar (which he created and sold to Steve Jobs for $10 million)?

Or the Prequel Trilogy, which earned more than $2 billion worldwide in movie ticket sales alone?

I guess it depends on your perspective.

Not to mention, Mr. Fax, the fact that the budget for such a production would be astronomical. The transportation costs alone to ship the "Martians" to the set would likely put the film over budget.

American Graffeti, Staw Wars, THX-1138. People love to dog on the guy but forget what a brilliant innovator he was.

Actually, it's fine. It's right in line with titles like "Temple of Doom."

Actually, it was EditDroid, which yes, became Avid.

And I don't think you can credit him with Pixar. Unless you credit anyone who hires someone and they go off and form something on their own....

No it doesn't. It's not as concise nor is it as catchy. It's a mouthful. And the Crystal Skull would have been easier. It would have fit the scheme.
