Misc Going to the Dentist - Page 2

A friend of mine said she needs a root canal and upfront it will cost her 900 but insurence will pay her back. So, I decided to finally after six years get my teeth checked on wednesday. My teeth hurt every once in a while (been hurting all day) mainly the upper part of my mouth where my wisdom teeth are coming in. I know that I have a couple cavities, three wisdom teeth coming in, and a molar that has a big cavity on it that is making that tooth rot (back of the tooth is a blueish color).

I have a huge phobia about dentists. I am all sorts of worried about what hes going to say and want to do.

Has anyone ever had problems with the removal of their wisdom teeth?
What do you think hes going to want to do about that bad tooth?
What kind of price range do you think it'll be? I have good dental insurance but I know it won't pay it all.

If he says I need all that work, which problem would you take care of first? I'm sure he's going to fix the small cavities on wednesday. I'd rather get the most painful out of the way first.

If you haven't been to the Dentist in six years you are going to have cavities up the ass. The cleaning and all that stuff they do in your six month checkups that most people get is gunk you can't get off your teeth by brushing. And if you don't floss regularly, it's going to be even worse. If you have a dental plan, chances are they will cover 2 check ups a year for a minimal cost to you. Take advantage of it unless you want to look like this guy

Eat a bunch of garlic before you go. It helps the cavities stand out and make it easier to see for the dentist.

Well, I can speak professionally on this, but with the caveat of course that everyone is different and I dont know your specific patient info. so here is the best I can do. The blue you see from the tooth could be from a silver filling in the tooth showing through. If you see one in the top of the tooth it is very possible. Ask him to prescribe 10 mg valium for your appt. It is antianxiolytic and will turn the phobia down a few notches. Dont let him put anything silver colored in the teeth as far as restorative materials go. If it has been 6 years, you more than likely need periodontal treatment rather than a standard cleaning. If the dentist does the cleaning, and not a dental hygienist, find a different office. I never schedule patients with a cleaning the same day as a new patient consult for that very reason. If a cavity is larger than about 1/3 the width of the tooth, it should have a crown. They typically run anywhere from $750 to $1000 and insurance may pay up to 60%. Hope that helps.

Yep, just as I thought.

I have to have all four wisdom teeth pulled and some cavities fixed. Atleast I don't have to have a root canal. The dentist said I could get two done at a time and he would do it or all four at the same time (said he'd have to recommend me to a oral surgeon for that). Getting all four done by an oral surgeon will cost twice as much. My insurance is BA and is 80/20.

What would you do? Get them all done at once with a lot more cost or two at a time.

I'd love to get them done all at once but have to find out prices.

Anybody know price ranges for it?

My azz. The douche I went to gave me six pills. He told me to take 4 when I went to bed and 2 when I got up.

I learned a valuable lesson at age 21 when I neglected my teeth and had 5 cavity's that had to be filled. ever since then I've gone every 6 months religiously for a cleaning and a check up. I haven't had a cavity in over 22 years. another hint, if you floss every day the cleaning doesn't hurt as much either. my wisdom teeth got pulled 2 at a time. make sure you go to a very good oral surgeon if they're impacted. don't go to a butcher!

Oh, and I've had it all. I've had all of my wisdom teeth removed, one moler removed (cracked under gum line), and two root canals. but the worst pain I've ever felt was getting a ****ing crown done on my other back moler. the ****ing dentist was drilling that ****ing tooth for almost 3 hours. he turned this gigantic moler into a little doberman tooth. that hurt worse than any extraction or root canal. and make sure you request FULL JUICE for maximum relaxation and pain relief!
