As Hamas ably illustrated above, the conundrum is to translate to rate of discrete frames, still pictures, to the rate of oscillation of the pixels. If you are translating 24 discrete pictures per second into 60 pixel oscillations per second, you have to introduce new interpolated in between pictures that previously didn't exist and are calculated on the fly [3:2 pulldown]. However, if you are translating 24 discrete pictures into 120 pixel oscillations, you can simply show each picture for exactly 5 oscillations and still maintain the FPS, show the EXACT picture with no interpolation and still maintain proper timing [5:5 pulldown].
It's ironic that this proves my point. I also pointed this out in the thread. HD transmissions are 60 Hz PERIOD. HD doesn't care about 24 FPS, or 120 Hz. This is about LCD screens trying to get away from blur. They bump to 120Hz to match closely to their refresh rate (8 ms, more or less if you're spending big $). The most responsive panels show a perfect picture at 60 Hz, the others try to make up for deficiencies by "tricking" screens with refresh rates. It works, sort of. I won't go on, but you're wrong.

No, I'm not.

Movies are shot in 24 fps

TV is shot in 60 FPS.

Both factor evenly into 120 Hz

Do you ever wonder why videophiles want 1080p/24? It's because you won't have interpolated images that cause jittering and artifacts.

Look it up on any forum.

Please, go to AVS and post a thread saying that 24 FPS/Hz doesn't matter for source information. You'll get laughed out of the room. I'm sorry that you're too arrogant to acknowledge basic mathematical factoring.
