When it comes to something like the tuck rule, it makes sense because it takes the judgment completely out of the call. Either the arm was still moving forward or it wasn't.
As much as I disagree with the rule change, the death of the force-out rule does the same thing. But these rules all seem to add more judgment for the refs. "Were those players 'too' close on the kcikoff?" "Was that a leg swipe, or a lunge?" besides the fact that more and more rules lately, especially those protecting the QB, seem to completely go against the spirit of playing to the whistle. This isn't a game played in lab coats on linoleum. It's played on grass, and things happen. Injuries suck...but they are a part of the deal every player signs up for. |
