I don't think this move had anything to do with if Gailey was capable. It had so much more to do with Haley seeing how bad overall the offense is and feeling he needed to be in charge of it more than anything. I don't think he has patience to sit back and let someone else try to work things out.

I think playcalling was a very big part of this decision.

While Chan went to the spread last year to maximize Thigpen's chances for success, even then the play calling was conservative and unimaginitive, for the most part, especially in the second half of games, and in the red zone.

That continued to be a problem in this preaseason, and I think Haley just decided he had to become more involved, not only to get more creativity in the offense, but to use that creativity to minimize the suckage that is the O-Line.
