Maybe that was the problem? Maybe against the advice of his research staff, he picked it out himself because he thought he could be the first one to complete the challenge?

I'm sure there are a few restaurants in the KC area that have a steak challenge, but it's possible he won't do steaks. I think I've only seen him do one steak challenge in all of his episodes. There could be a lot of reasons they picked out Papa Bob's that we don't know of. I bet he wanted to be the first to win the challenge, no matter how difficult and ridiculous it was.

You could be right - he's done 3-4 steak challenges before that I've seen, but maybe he just REALLY wanted to try BBQ.
