WHOA. I just reviewed the game highlights. What is this Pope non-fumble thing in the end zone that should've been a touchback about? Pretty ballsy for anyone on here to complain about the refs when it looks like -- to me -- that was a fairly clear screw up on a critical play.

No doubt I'm going to open a can of whoop-ass on myself because I haven't seen that play 200,000 times and talked about it until the end of time, but I gotta mention it.

that has been mentioned quite a bit here CP, just not in this thread... and yes, that does belong in a thread about complaints about the refs! The refs missed it and McCarthy stupidly didn't challenge it.

hrm, you can't challenge holding non-calls...

Yup, dodged a bullet there. But then again, Pope doesn't fumble the ball through the end zone 2 or 3 times a game.

Hali being blatantly held, however...

I haven't been around much this week, but was the replay on that "fumble" conclusive enough to overturn? I thought it looked bad, but the angles were unclear at first glance. I too haven't poured over the footage for days.

Yes. It should have been challenged and would have been a Touchback.

Then I suppose I'll call that even for not getting the safety call, although McCarthy could have challenged that so it's not really the same.

Apples and oranges.

Hali gets held a lot and it's not called and not reviewable.

The fumble was 1 play and McCarthy made the decision not to challenge.

So, to even things out, the Chiefs only score 18 instead of 19.

Give Hali a safety, and take away a FG.

Right. As you may have guessed by now, I carefully cherry-pick the Chiefs-related threads I review, and the ones that zoom to hundreds and hundreds of posts, yeah, no. I tend to focus on ones that will entertain me, or that deal with rules issues (which for some reason interest me). The minutiae of which Chiefs OLineman is best etc. doesn't interest me in the slightest.

It was critical at the time, and McCarthy was dumb for not challenging it, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game. The Chiefs got a FG out of it, and with the way the Chiefs were playing defense, it's unlikely the Packers do anything there. -3 points?

It's a fair point. If Hali is getting held like that one in the End Zone all the time, then you have a really legitimate beef. That one was flat absurd.

Under this logic, it's equally no big deal that the Packers didn't get called for holding. Who cares, you won?

That isn't how refs get judged...

I haven't "poured" over the footage, but I looked at it fairly closely and it looked to me like there was enough to overturn.

1. He had clearly established possession (long run before it got to that point), so completing the pass was not in question.

2. His last step was clearly in bounds, and then he starts to try to transfer the ball from the left hand to the right.

3. As he loses control of the ball and is heading out of bounds, the ball CLEARLY lands either in the end zone or right on the line, which means it was in bounds crossing the goal line, which means it's a touchback for the Packers (rather than Chiefs possession at wherever it went out of bounds).

There was nothing to obscure the view and it looked pretty clear to me. I'd say there was indisputable evidence sufficient to overturn.

In a 9-7 game, why the HELL didn't McCarthy challenge?!?!?!
