"Very solid"? Jesus, it would be the most insane offseason in the history of the franchise. It would make us no worse than the 3rd best team in the AFC, presuming a healthy Manning. And once you get that high, you're a legit contender (afterall, both the Ravens and the 9ers were a couple of special teams screwups from the SB). I'd say filling the QB position with a HOFer, the NT position with a top 15 guy, retaining our key FAs, adding a guy that appears to be one of the best RT prospects in the draft, as well as the best C prospect in the draft (therefore rebuilding 40% of our O-line; 60% if you count moving Hudson to RG) and adding a nice multi-purpose back would be slightly more than a 'very solid' offseason.

I don't think Adams will be a first round pick. He might after the combine and Senior Bowl but I've seen him being stated as a likely 2 rounder. It would only require signing 2 fa's also, which isn't really that crazy. I put a little mock together. 1st: Konz after trading back 2a. Burfict 2b. Adams 3. Polk 4. Egnew 5. safety from Boise State 6. Joe Adams 7. Best Blocking TE available. I know it probably won't work out that way but that would be a dynamite ****ing draft. |

This team is excruciatingly close to actually being one of the best teams in football. Nothing you're suggesting is that far-fetched. And yeah, if things broke like that and Manning could come back at 90% of what he was in a Chiefs uniform, I'd start seriously pondering Super Bowl chances. But why do we kill ourselves like this? We're not going to pursue Manning. And while Pioli managed to trade back intelligently once, he's also failed to do so once. The chances of us having a draft like 2011 are no greater than the chances of us having a draft like 2009. In reality, it will probably end up looking a lot like 2010, and that draft is just shaping up okay at this point. If it happened like you're suggesting, it would be a goddamn miracle. It would be a blessing from the football gods and an apology for all the evils they've inflicted on us over the last several decades. It would be a damn sight more than "Very solid". But it ain't gonna happen.
