Pursuit of Manning will begin as soon as possible

The pursuit of Peyton Manning is expected to begin as soon as possible, according to several executives who have interest in the free-agent to be.

I spoke to several club officials from teams who would have interest in Manning and, if he’s released Wednesday as expected, they expected teams to begin contacting his agent, Tom Condon, shortly after the transaction becomes official.

“I would think you might as well make that call and get your name in there,” one official said. “You call to express interest and then monitor the situation.”

No one knows Manning’s full medical situation, the officials stressed, and they aren’t so sure that Manning would immediately start making visits or be prepared to throw for teams right away. Team officials expressed belief that it’s possible that Manning ends up holding one workout rather than traveling to the 6-8 teams expected to show the most serious interest.

According to league sources, the Cardinals, Dolphins, Jets, Redskins and Seahawks will pursue Manning. The Broncos, Chiefs and 49ers are also being discussed by general managers around the league as teams that could push for Manning.

Keep in mind, Manning can be as particular as he wants with his suitors. It'll be all about getting a ring ASAP. I'd go MIA if had to guess
I don't understand why La Canfora is pressing about Manning would go to a division where Brady and the Pats have dominated it for the last decade.

Citing an unnamed source, the New York Post reported Tuesday evening that the New York Jets will “definitely” consider signing quarterback Peyton Manning after he’s released by the Colts.

According to the report, the Jets are “wrestling” with the idea of “shaking up their franchise.” It was just three offseasons ago that the Jets traded up to draft supposed franchise quarterback Mark Sanchez. Signing or even aggressively entertaining the idea of acquiring Manning would send the message that the Sanchez move was a mistake.

They’d also likely have to cut ties with Sanchez.

Sanchez is owed an $8.5 million base salary and $2.75 million roster bonus on March 27. The $11.25 million in combined 2012 payments is much too rich for a backup quarterback. There is no realistic scenario in which the Jets could keep Sanchez on the roster if Manning was acquired.

So he would have to be traded or waived.

Probably because he's an east coast guy & wishes for it.

Miami basically has nothing to offer the guy but Brandon Marshall & a good o-lineman or two.

Their defense is junk, in need of a rebuild & the O is totally bereft of talent outside of Marshall.

Why would he want to go to a rebuilding team, even if it is warm weather?

And the Cardinals are basically the same, with only Fitzgerald as a true go to guy on an undertalented O & a defense thats been picked apart, player by player, in the years since their super bowl run.
