And my 8th grade shop teacher was proud of his paddle as well. In 1996. I know that's pretty much been eliminated these days, but I don't buy all the "when I was your age" stuff.

Wow, those both surprise me. Maybe it is a regional thing. Up here, the police would have been involved on both of those cases.
