That is a big assumption that has made fools out of many franchises and put them back years when the guy they took didn't pan out (Leinert, Akili Smith, Jamarcus Russell, David Carr, etc.) I know not all those guys were drafted first overall, but they were all drafted very high and failed. Without a guy that is a capable qb already on the roster, you are forced to put a non ready rookie in the games. I just don't like it.

It doesn't matter if the #1 overall guy is able to start or not. The simple fact of the matter is that HE WILL.

Blaine Gabbert started his rookie season and he wasn't anywhere near ready. Be prepared because a #1 draft pick WILL start, whether he's ready or not.

And if you're in the "need a guy that can play" camp, you're with me. Alex Smith is overkill.
