Alex Smith is "the best in the league"

If I'm a defensive coordinator and a team decides to run the read option on my defense, I'm likely going to have a guy unblocked that the offense is going to have to "option" off of.

I'm telling that guy to hit the QB, solidly, everytime. I don't even worry about the RB at that point, he can gain some yards. But I don't go for fakes, etc. I'm hitting the QB, and they can't flag that, he's a runner at that point.

I agree. It's different for a guy like Alex Smith too, because he is drastically smaller than guys like Kaepernick, Cam and Big Ben who can take hits like that.

I don't want us running the read option very much at all.
