Final thoughts on preseason

This team just looks better. Just all around, even our suck is better than our suck in years past. You can tell we have a staff of coaches that know wtf they are doing. It's refreshing as we haven't seen that since the DV days when you get to it.

Obviously we haven't played a meaningful down yet and you can tell that there is room to improve but I think everyone is getting the sense that we are doing just that, improving. Worst to first? Most likely not but in this division it may not be unreachable.

Offense:
Running game looks rather weak but we were without JC against SF and went against the Steelers the next game. 2 very, very good defenses. So is our running game that bad or were we facing good defenses? Probably some of both.

Smith is going to be the proverbial game manager and if his preseason is any indication of what is to come that can suffice for now. His throws are accurate and receivers aren't jumping, reaching, diving, or sliding to catch passes ala Cassel. Don't turn it over, control the clock, rest the defense. That is a winnable recipe even if it is a boring one.

Tyler Bray......kid is going to be good in 2-3 years. If he pays attention to who he is learning from, we are going to have a bad ass QB.

Defense:
Its on! This defense is getting after it and though it may be a feast or famine defense, it's obvious that the days of Romeo's read-react defense is gone. This is attack, attack and attack some more. I think Poe and TJax are going to take big steps in the right direction this year.

Special Teams:
What can you say? They looked awesome all preseason long.

I see shades of Marty ball coming with a ball control offense, relentless defense and strong special teams. We just replace the power running with dinking and dunking in the passing game.

Your reading comprehension is abysmal. I used Joe and Flacco to illustrate that you don't need high yardage to win. That is NOT comparing Alex Smith to Joe Montana buddy.

Why is this even up for debate?

The Cowboys would be one of the worst teams in football without Romo.

Without Alex, well...the 49ers are just fine.

The 49ers have a dominant run game, a dominant run blocking oline, a dominant defense, and a head coach who loves running the ball.

yeahhhh, they should definitely chuck it all over.....

That's what id do too.

You could say this about most teams in the NFL with a half competent starting QB. Take Brees out and the Saints suck, Brady out and the Patriots are a sub .500 ball club. Very few teams are like the 49ers where they are going to be half-way decent no matter who is throwing the rock due to the 49ers being a very 'complete' team.

Take Peyton from the Broncos and that is a 3 win team there.

Its a given that Tony Romo is a better qb than Alex Smith.

What is missed here is that even with Kaepernick, who is a much better qb than Alex Smith, the 49ers are still going to run the ball, MORE than they pass this year.

And at the end of the year, I will post the number of rushes, and passes. Jim Harbaugh ran 58 percent of the time in college. That's with Andrew Luck.

That's who he is. That's the strength of the 49ers.....

It's not changing the subject, jackass.

If you extrapolate his per game average out for the other five games, he still has 3,000 yards. The fact is you are making a ****ing stupid argument.

Total yards are interesting but are not NECESSARY to win Super Bowls, which was his only point.

Romo and Smith are very similar in my opinion. They are both serviceable, but neither is championship caliber. Dallas won't win a championship with Romo, and the Chiefs I don't think will with Smith. Whatever else happens is just stats.
