Here is the latest on Crennel:

Quote:
Weis also acknowledged that he offered the defensive line position, the remaining open position on the Irish staff, to former Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel, but the two mutually agreed that it was not the right time for Crennell to take the position.

"Most of you guys know that Romeo and I are close friends. When he got let go from the Browns, we started talking about the possibility of coming over here and working with me," Weis said. "Romeo and I set a timetable for this week, because next week he's going to have his hip replaced. . . . Before he went on a little vacation this week, we decided that he wasn't in a position at this time to make a commitment to do this, so we're going to move in another direction."

Keith Butler, LB coach for the Steelers.

This guy coaches up linebackers like no one in the league, yet never gets hired for a DC job. If we are going to a 3-4, I would love to have him.
I wondered the same thing. If I'm not mistaken, the Whiz brought him in for a DC interview recently, so if that's the case, it would hard for us to win that battle given that Whiz has worked with him before. But regardless, it would be a great fit--LBs coach seem to make good DCs.

So, we know Gailey is the OC, but we don't know who is calling the plays! Gailey? Haley?

We've got 2 or 3 coaches hired who are DC material, but we don't know who is doing what yet. I've never seen such a thing. This is really crazy! I guess, in the end, if they win, all is good.

I think they haven't announced the defensive staff yet cause they're not finished building the staff for the defense. JMO though.

So, wait a minute. Now I'm confused. Who is the DC? I thought it was Pendergast? Have they not announced anyone now? The rumor now is that Crennell is on his way to the Chiefs. What's going on? Anyone disturbed by this? Anyone thrilled by this? What they're doing sure is different than anything I've seen. Very interesting.

Switch to 3-4

I was watching the NFL combine coverage last night. The ticker was running through each team, reporting news, listing looming free agents etc.

I noticed that Jason Babin was a free agent. But even more interesting was the fact he was listed as a LB. I've only known him as DE in the league and he played DE for Gun and Herm. The fact he's listed as a LB now makes me think we are switching to a 3-4.

Pendergast = DC - disturbed
Crennell = DC - thrilled

This whole thing is strange if you ask me. I really hope Crennell accepts the job. I wonder if he's just waiting to see how the surgery goes? I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Still no confirmation on the D Cord? Seems strange that they would bring Pendergast in and not name him the DC unless they are holding out hope for Crennel and need a fallback option in case he says no.

Probably just a typo, I dont think they would have made a switch like that at this stage of the off-season so fast. Babin was JAG that did nothing last year.

Houston drafted him to be an outside linebacker in Caper's 3-4 scheme.

Any news on who the DC is? I've been away for awhile it seems, and still no DC?
