We saw the formula for this offense going forward against the Giants...

As much as some don't want to admit or accept it, the fact is that the high-flying offense we have seen the last few years is gone for the moment. But we can change that if we force teams to defend something else.

1. Run the ball more. DW and Gore should be active in running and catching out of the backfield. Gore has patients and vision that CEH does not.

2. Take the shorter passes first and check down to the deeper pass. Quit waiting to see if someone deep will open up. Dink-dunk.

3. Patience. We ran the ball one drive for almost the entire drive and scored a TD. Next drive we never ran the ball once and punted.

The simple fact is teams are daring us to run the ball and play the short game betting that we either won't stick with it or will **** ourselves. If we quit turning over the ball the rest we can do.

Once we win a few games running the ball and playing ball control then teams will have no choice to start bringing more players down into the box and then we can go back to tearing shit up in the air.

Until then, 6 or 7 in the box should be run or dink-dunk with some PA pass. The RPO stuff might have to take a bit of a backseat for a bit.

As it is there's a real good chance our offense will shoot itself in the foot, so defenses will double down on the deep safeties and continue to give us plenty of opportunities to screw up.
The Patriots were good at this. However, they had one big advantage. They didn't get penalized much. The Chiefs lead the league in offensive penalties. That, combined with turnovers have been drive killers.

I don't know what happened in the Titans game. They couldn't move the ball period against a defense full of scrubs.

From that Athletic article

Quote:
“The two-high and what you run out of that is completely different,” said Lions passing game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant, who served as the Rams’ cornerbacks coach under Staley in 2020. “I just think with the game being spread out, the game being open, not being able to touch defenders, not being able to touch receivers the way you used to in the first five yards, we try to make it a little more cloudy for the quarterback and make him try to figure out post-snap.”

The central tenet of this defensive philosophy is to limit explosive plays, and Staley’s Rams accomplished that better than any defense in the NFL last season. In a league dominated by high-octane passing, this style of defense sends offenses back to the drawing board, forcing them to reevaluate how they want to shape their passing game.

“[Fangio] is one of the more frustrating coordinators to play, because you’re waiting and waiting for an explosive shot, and they don’t ever give them to you,” Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said. “If you’re a QB that likes to do that, it can be really frustrating. You almost have to change your mindset when you play against those guys.”

The newer type of Quarters sweeping the league is far less daring. Rodgers says that it’s inspired by the “Palms” coverage that Fangio has long favored, which features two high safeties with no role in fitting the run. By removing their run responsibilities, both safeties can play with more depth and help negate throws down the field. Different coaches use different imagery when talking about this modified version of Quarters. Some call it an umbrella. Others refer to it as a “dome” look. Staley likes to say he’s putting a “roof” over the defense.

Whatever the terminology, the goal is the same: Force offenses to beat you without the benefit of 30- and 40-yard shot plays. And as that philosophy starts to proliferate around the league, offenses will have to rethink what they’ve been programmed to believe about how to score in the modern NFL. “I think there’s gonna be much less margin for error for the efficiency that’s necessary,” McVay said. “It’s much harder to hunt out those explosives. There’s a premium on offenses that are efficient and explosive.”

No offense was able to exploit the Rams’ defensive strategy quite like the Packers did last season — and that’s because few units around the league are as disciplined as Green Bay’s. That calm and collected approach begins with Rodgers, who honed the ability to pick his spots during nearly a decade of games against Lovie Smith’s Bears.

“That’s always what I had to mentally wrap my head around playing the Bears for so many years: ‘It’s gonna be a checkdown game,’” Rodgers said. “It’s gonna be a dink-and-dunk game — until they come out of their scheme.’”

In 2007, when Rodgers was backing up Brett Favre, the Bears played 14 straight snaps of soft Tampa 2 coverage. “I’m just thinking, ‘Are you kidding me?” Rodgers said. “They’re not gonna do anything different? But that’s what this defense was predicated on.”

I liked what I saw from Gore after calling out for him to be on the team full time.

I thought our run blocking was excellent for most of the game and at the end the Giants dared us to throw. (Can you believe it with Mahomes?)

They stacked the box and it was tough to run against a 7-8 man front.

I liked Gore better than Williams.

The first team to do this against us was Buffalo in the regular season last year.

We responded with 46 rushes, 26 passes and 38 minutes TOP.

And with a MUCH shittier OL than we have now.

Right now, we're a boxer that keeps swinging haymakers at the opponent's head, even though they are covered up and exposing the body.

We need to bust some ribs until they give up the opening to go for the headshot, and we're too impatient to do it.

This.

They did it the first drive. Then the pick happened and everyone panicked.

Mahomes is gonna have to stand in there and take his time in the pocket. He's seeing ghosts and it kills everything.

Failure to adjust. Ego. Stubborness. Whatever you want to call it. Reid refuses to adjust the gameplan to counter what the league is doing to shut down his offense. He's got the "WE dictate the pace of the game" BS in his DNA. Shining example last night was that garbage trick play by the goal line w/ Kelce at QB, flipping back to Mahomes. WTF was that nonsense? RUN THE ****ING BALL. ATTACK THE SEAMS. THE MIDDLE IS WIDE ****ING OPEN. TAMPA 2 IS ANCIENT. FFS.

WTF are you watching? The reason people are liking GORE right now is because he has shown that he has the vision to see a plugged hole and bounce outside.

Gore is whatever. Williams is too slow.

CEH is fine but he's always hurt.

Tarde a 7th for Phillip Lindsey.

Butt****ing morons.

Defenses have no reason to play the run, because they know Reid will never commit to the run more than say 1 drive. It's not in his DNA. So they drop 7 and 8 into coverage, rape Kelce at the line and basically all that leaves is Hill to defend.

It doesn't matter. The Chiefs score 34 points last night if they don't turn it over.

All this hand-wringing about running the ball up Creed's ass more is what we need is stupid.

We just need to stop doing stupid stuff on offense. Death by 1,000 cuts works fine if you don't do stupid stuff.
