This spells the end for Whit Merrifield. Can't have two guys named Witt on the team.

^ Kylie and Eric of fangraphs who talk with a lot of scouts give a comp of Trevor Story SS of the Rockies, a guy who can hit .270 with 25-30 homers, which is pretty conservative imo
If he hits for average, there's a good chance he's a 5 tool player because all the other tools are there. There was question about whether he could hit against tougher competition in the high school showcases. |

Who is going to move position, Mondi or Witt? Will we raise Witt as a SS and use him or Mondi as trade? Or will we try to raise Witt as a different position, assuming Mondi is the star we all think he could be? Or use one as a trade to fill other holes.

Trevor Story is a good likely/achievable ceiling. But if he can get to a 50 hit tool, you’re talking about a guy who can .280 with 25 HR, 30 SB and GG defense at SS. Compare that to whoever you want. There are questions about his hit tool. But he made some big adjustments between his jr and Sr seasons and just has to trust his raw power. He’s a baseball rat, and those types usually can improve if they posesss the underlying physical skills. He does. Just sold out for power a lot as a junior to his pull side, which raises contact questions.

Glad they didn’t overthink this. Arguably one of the best SS prospect in years. He can probably play 3rd next to Mondesi if it comes to that.
