Seriously, the idea that we should not have to even remotely like the people we're rooting for, that they could be convicted felons, and you'd still be thrilled if they won the Super Bowl...

That is just a baseless, useless idolization of sports for the sake of your own obsession.

If sports has become that impersonal for you, that soulless and pointless, nothing more than finding cogs for a machine whose gears you care nothing for, is a sign that this isn't a healthy approach to the sport.

I'm a big fan of yours, OTW, but you need to get your head straight.

And coming from me, that's saying something.

Hell, I'll ESPECIALLY root for them if they're convicted felons. At least convicted felons have a sense of honor to the gang/team/boss/whatever you want to call it.

Matt Cassel has no honor. He acts like a complete jackass any time somebody sprinkles a little criticism on him. He won't ever fess up and say he ****ed up. He's never once done that shit. He's a terrible leader, so you may as well be playing with convicted felons.

You have yet to address the fact that Cassel is NOT a good teammate, and has never voluntarily shouldered the heat for the team's failures, even if they weren't his own.

Trent Green did that all the time. Hell, ****ing Tyler Thigpen and Tyler Palko did that in what limited starts they had.

Cassel's sacrifice to the team compared to previous QBs is somewhere along the lines of Elvis Grbac.

OP, I was trying to figure out who it is that you remind me of. Its Peter King. You've got some football knowledge, but then you kinda come off as a bumbling, well:

So what is your excuse?

I'm sure its been pointed out to you already but you managed to completely nullify your argument basically immediately.

inability to be consistently really, really good
I think you mean his ability to be consistently not very good at all. Unfortunately for you, that's the most important and really only part that matters. Nothing wrong with finding people that meet those other criteria, but you do not excuse them not having football talent because of it. Too bad Cassel didn't do us a favor and give up football to go work with charity. That way he can be an even better guy (imagine all the profundity that could be spewed about him by the likes of Peter King), and the Chiefs could have tried to find a QB that doesn't suck.

I have always said that character matters.

But character without talent is useless.

I don't give a rat's ass if Cassel is the nicest mother****er to ever walk the planet, he's still a useless piece of shit on the field.

Your point is, you don't give two shits about character.

So you can retract that bingo any time you wish.

I don't care about character if it comes at the cost of talent.

Yep... I'd probably like him if he was the quarterback at Kansas. He couldn't win a starting job at a real football school, he tries real hard and he's a nice guy... can't expect much more when you're watching Kansas football.

This is the NFL though... a team in a quarterback league that has decent talent otherwise and hasn't won shit in almost 2 decades. And if last year didn't make it obvious enough, there's no telling when the window of opportunity will close for the most talented players on the team.

This isn't college or Team USA... they're professional athletes making more money than most of us will see in a lifetime, and it costs over $100 if you want to see them live for 3 hours. Trying hard is the absolutely minimun expectation. I wouldn't go as far as saying I'd enjoy watching a team of felons win a SB, but I'd certainly put up with some prima donnas over a bunch of nice guy who can't win a playoff game.
