Why This Loss Hurts So Much
I completely disagree with those who say we had more talent than the Royals. In fact, I think we had the least amount of talent starting the playoffs than any other team in the AL. We had an offense missing 3 starters. There isn't another team in the AL that could have done more under these conditions. The reason it hurts so bad is that we lucked into the best matchup possible and our magic ran out. I was hoping beyond hope for more magic but was cognizant of the fact that our offense wasn't going to be able to score in Detroit, Oakland or Kansas City. We need more speed. We need more obp. We need more consistency.

The most painful thing about this is that our luck got transferred to a team that wasn't much better than us. Make no mistake, had we gotten their luck, we could have won. The answer is to get better because next year, we may find ourselves facing a team with a 200-250 million cap in the playoffs.

KC didn't swing for the hills.

WE did... every. Single. Time.

It was like clockwork.

Yost did the same thing pretty much every game. Grind out a couple of runs, swap in a few pinch runners in late innings and manage the bullpen properly.

And now they're going to the WS and we aren't.

MSK

We had plenty of opportunities, especially with bases loaded, to counteract the luck the classless royals displayed. For some reason following the first game loss we seemed to choke and lose belief in ourselves - which is maddening because that belief has won us so many games this year. It is a shame we didn't get the Angels as I think they were a better matchup for us and think we would be WS bound right now, but it wasn't to be.

I don't think the royals luck can continue, and think - and hope - it will be a procession for the NL winners.

Just gutted really. Such an immense opportunity now gone. And to think a few weeks ago many were talking up a possible beltway WS, and I was certain we would be there with or without the Nats.

Oh, and on another note - if the Os had reached the WS I would have won ?500 and if they won that, it would be ?2000 - so extra gutted to get this close and throw it away

Nope, I never use "being lucky" excuse because it's bullshit. Outside of winning the Powerball lottery with blind luck, I scoff at that notion concerning sports achievement.

as I said many many times before "being lucky" is when preparation and hard work meets opportunity.

Everybody loves KC and wants them to win, if you can believe the 'polls.' But the Koch Industries headquarters is in Wichita, and Kansas is a Tea Party dystopia thanks to their Koch-purchased Governor Brownback. This is what the Royals represent, people. Go SF!!!!!!!!

Either this guy doesn't realize that the Royals play in Missouri or I don't understand the connection between the Royals and Koch industries. Maybe both.

Because they're winning these games against us the way we won games against our opponents. I suppose these Bitchmore turds believe that San Francisco is winning their games entirely legitimately, but when we do it, it's just part of a "hot streak."
San Fran played great since coming back from our 4-1 lead in game 4. They played flawless with Baumgarner last night. Luck has had jack and shit to do with it.

Yeah, exactly.

I have seen a lot of Royals fans give praise to the Giants. They're just playing extremely well, and the way their lineup battles and refuses to give in/strike out is so difficult to play against. Sure, there are a lot of bloop hits, but the Giants are purposely trying to put the ball in play and put pressure on the defense, especially with two strikes.

That's very different than taking a big, full swing and dropping a blooper in off the handle or something.

The Orioles fans, for some reason, seem unable to recognize that when the Royals were doing that to THEM, it was a purposeful tactic. They also conveniently ignore the Royals out-homering and out-slugging them in that series. (And all the fluky, lucky breaks that went the Orioles way).

So **** them.

We already knew internet orioles fans were the worst. This just adds further confirmation.

I've lived on both coasts and I can say you are full of shit. In fact, your attitude towards them shows more arrogance than them.

And YOU calling someone hyper-political? You wear your politics on your sleeve every ****ing day here. Hypocrite.

I would recommend you avoid them at all costs though, that would be a BIG favor to them.

I lived on the east coast for some time and visited all the big cities and worked with plenty of people so I feel pretty confident in my observations of them. Fair point on the West Coast, have spent almost no time there.

It's my thesis that much of what you're seeing on the Os board relates to their coastal bias. You seem to disagree. And that's fine, but don't pull out the lame "I lived out there once!" because I did too.

The everyone is against us chorus from the O's fans is even more hilarious when weighed against SF fans who mostly don't call that out. They rightly could. In this state, they are surrounded by As and Dodgers fans who are all "anyone but the Giants" fans, and they deal with it all day, every day, until this is over. I don't think the O's had to deal with that at all.

Most giants fans have been good, some of this shit in game 6 when we scored all the runs was fun to read.
