Didn't think he was ready, tried to slip him onto the PS and failed.

That was a tough loss for sure but I think they ended up using the roster spot on RNR so it was mitigated somewhat.

I'm as big of a David Irving guy as you will find, but frankly we didn't have much space on the roster for him. At the time you had Howard AND Bailey, and you just drafted Jones. Plus I think he's more natural as a 43 DE. But I'm not a defensive expert and could be totally wrong.

We drafted Jones in '16; lost Irving in 15.

They could've moved on from DeVito but the run defense had been so spotty after DJ went down in '14 that I can see why they didn't want to do so.

It was an unfortunate loss but pretty defensible at the time.

With Schwartz well under market value through 2020 (seriously, Dorsey !@#$ing stole that guy) and Fisher young/improving and also under contract through 2021, I'm not sure Erving will ever get an opportunity to show whether or not he can really be counted on as a starter.

And he's proven he isn't worth spit at C (lord he's been bad). So unless he somehow flashes at G, which seems unlikely given his inability to keep his damn pads down - I just don't see any way he's getting an option picked up.

well if you have not noticed besides the Tard we are always rotating guys in a guard, I think Irving will get an opportunity to stick.

That's because the Chiefs haven't "hit" on a left guard.

Jeff Allen was always injured and allowed to walk, Mike McGlynn was an epic disaster, Ben Grubbs was an awful trade (and Cap Hit).

Jah Reid, Donald Stephenson and Zach Fulton weren't the answer and while Ehinger showed promise early last year, he missed 11 regular season games and hasn't fully recovered from his ACL tear.

Once that position is solidified, the line will be absolutely phenomenal (when healthy).

Nice perspective. Thanks.

Amazing to think about what that would mean to the office. Damn.

I'm giddy thinking about the future of this team.

Agreed.

The 5th year option all but precludes the Chiefs from picking it up, unless he makes a monstrous transformation.

But if he ascends, it's possible that he's re-signed as a backup/swing player.

Am I the only person who thinks Witzmann isn't that bad? He's a clear upgrade from Fulton at G.

We can do far worse. Yes, we should seek to upgrade if we can, but right now the dude costs nothing and is doing a lot of things right.

I like him. Solid athlete and generally sound technically. Can get beat by power but WTF do you want from a virtually free starting guard?

He's fine. If he's the worst player on your OL (playing likely the least important position on your OL), you have a damn good OL.

I don't think that Witzmann is "bad", at all. He's a relatively young guy, in terms of playing at this level (he spent his college years at South Dakota State), but he tends to make mistakes when he's flustered.

As I mentioned earlier, he'll only continue to get better this season and the good thing is that if he continues on this trajectory, the Chiefs have him on the cheap in 2018 as well.

If he would just stop with the penalties. Overall I think he's a solid prospect at guard.

He had a false start and a holding call last game. That's it.

It's not like he's Garrett Bolles or anything like that.
