I think I'm Addicted...

Over the Memorial Day weekend I was really bored.

I have enough money to go to the Casino on Friday night of that weekend, so I call up a buddy and we go.

I win $120.

On Saturday I just went to a party and got drunk.

On Sunday I was bored again, called up the same buddy to go to the Casino again.

I win $ 150.

On Monday (Memorial Day), I wasn't bored, I just thought, hey I'm on a hot streak I should go again today. I call up the same buddy.

I win $280.

Then I don't go from Tuesday-Friday.

I go on Vacation from Saturday-Friday.

Today, I call up the same buddy and we go to the casino.

I win $100.

Now, winning is all and good, but to me it seems like I'm addicted, I'm even thinking about going tomorrow. What would you do if you were me?

it'll catch up with you.

i'd recommend, if you're going to routinely gamble (which is fine), is to set aside your stake once ahead and continue. same with you subsequent visits.
I have a friend who plays poker about 3-4 times per week; almost to the point where he could earn the same as his full-time gig. But he's smart about it. keeps his winnings; 'invests' a percentage of the winnings for his next buy in; and so on etc.

this way if he busts, he's only out his stake (obviously); but since he's been doiing it so long, the stake is actually an accumulation of the percentage of his winnings.

...i've probably not explained it very well. lol.
I don't gamble; I have bad luck day in and day out.

There are no winning strategies to blackjack that don't involve counting cards. That's a fact and provable with math. If you play perfectly you can win over 40% of the time, but since you don't know how likely it is that you win before you're putting down money then over the long run you will lose.

Counting cards is also about impossible in a modern casino. They rotate too many decks. You can blame the MIT blackjack team for that one.

Playing poker against other poker players isn't the same thing as playing a game against the house.

All house games are in the houses favor, but it's entirely possible to win over the long run playing a poker game against other players who have the same chance of winning as you do. It actually is a skill.

I would say combined, all the times I've ever gone, I'm up at least $3000.

I've been on a slide lately though.

And I thought you didn't want a hooker, remember? I like turtles...

Alyhough counting cards does improve your chances to winit really isn't of much use. It is against the rules at every casino I know of. If they catch you doing it they will boot your ass. You may even get a visit from Guido.

If done correctly it's a surefire way to break the bank.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT_Blackjack_Team

The basic principle is that if you know what cards are left in the deck you can compute your odds of winning and sometimes those odds exceed 50% by a significant margin. Most of the time you play as normal with small bets but when your odds are higher that's when you make your big bets and the winnings from those bets should more than cover the losses from the normal odds bets.

This essentially means that mathematically you win over the long run.

And you don't think Guido is watching your betting patterns?? Play it to have fun a set limits so you don't lose more than you can afford. If you win then that's tits but if you don't, you had fun and you haven't lost your rent or mortgage payment.
