They are in desperate need for a safety, backup OL and LB.

Other than Allen to plug in at the guard position if something happens to either T or C, KC is screwed royally.

You guys are looking at this completely wrong. Smith isn't a backup DE. He's a backup DE, a backup NT, and possibly our starting fullback.

Ok...so out of the following players....who are you cutting to make room for him?

Dorsey, Jackson, Toribio, Bailey, Pitoitua, Powe and Poe.

And keep in mind, you need to cut TWO of the above. The inference by saying that he's a "backup DE and a backup NT" both is that he can replace TWO players, not one.

not really ... it's saying that he can be a backup at EITHER position, not necessarily both.

although after looking at the numbers i think it's more likely that we go with an extra secondary guy instead.

Maybe after the season starts and our secondary gets healthy we can switch to Smith. Then he wouldn't be guaranteed a full year's salary either. Totally depends on the situation in the secondary though.

You could cut Pitoitua. They won't because of draft position, but so far Bailey hasn't overly impressed.

I would rather have Pitoitua on this team over Smith.

Because he didn't want to play FB (and he wasn't very good at it either FWIW), he wanted to carry the ball. We didn't use him because we didn't have a use for him.

Todd Haley

He didn't use the tools he had. He never played to the players strengths. We should have played exactly like the Tampa team that won the Superbowl and that's what Muir did when Haley left. Muir knew exactly how to use them because he was on that Tampa coaching staff. Check out the comparisons.

QB: Brad Johnson = Cassel

HB: Warrick Dunn = Charles

FB: Mike Alstott = McClain

WR: Keyshon Johnson = Bowe

WR: Keenan McCardell = Breaston

WR: Joe Jurevicious = Baldwin

We were better at tight end with Moeaki

After Haley got canned, Muir did run the old Tampa style of offense and it worked better than what Haley was trying to do. Even with Battle and Thomas Jones in there.

We should have had a true fullback to block for McClain at times. I really hope they don't make this mistake again this year. I really think Daboll needs a good FB and I hope we get one that gets cut.

One of the tailbacks may end up being PS material since right now we have 4 backs and McCluster. I know McCluster is a full-time receiver, but he's also an emergency tailback which could cut down Draughn or Gray's usefulness. The fact that our returner is most likely going to come from the CB or WR ranks doesn't help.

I like both Draughn and Gray, but I can definitely see some scenarios where one of them ends up on another team while we try to sneak them on to the practice squad.

I doubt either back is in any danger of being cut.
They'll carry four.
