Time to trade Jared Allen...

With the latest news from his agent, it's time to shop the guy hard to Atlanta to see if we can get the Schaub picks.

Anybody agree?

I don't care if he misses 4 games - just the same as if he gets dinged in the middle of the season.. You don't trade a proven young guy who fills a big need on your crappy D - unless you absolutely have to.

Most definitely a 2nd - that's hardly debatable.

If he's suspended 4 games then 25% of his tender will never be paid. So, if his tender is $2 mill, he'll lose $500k. That's an expensive DUI.

I would have traded Gonzo as well. In fact, I think I posted as much right here.

Were they about to be suspended for four games? Would they be suspended for a year with one more mistake? Are they complete idiots who don't understand if you make a mistake, it's ok to learn from it and not repeat that mistake again? There is absolutely no doubt in my mind Jared will get another DUI and be out for a year. He's one of those people who just does his own thing and doesn't consider the repercussions. Those kinds of people may be great guys to hang out with but they aren't people to be giving millions of dollars to.

Wait until he realizes Croyle is the QB and see what he says.

I think it is a potential problem to look for.

Kinda wonder about Kennison as well since his buddy Green is done here.

We talk about the guy like he's Shawne Merriman.

He's not. He's had 9, 11 and 7.5 sacks. Hate to break it to both Jared and the folks in KC, but that's really nothing special. His average production amounts to what would be an off year for a good pass rusher. His production dictates that he's, so far, nothing more than a mediocre player who happens to be a fan favorite on a defense that's been historically bad for years. And now he's having repeat legal troubles and playing the vocal and disgruntled stuff in the media.

If I'm the gm, I shop him. He doesn't deserve a big contract at this point. If Allen homers want to say he's earned it on the field (which I don't believe - he's earned a mid-level contract), I'd counter by saying he lost that right by his behavior off of it. He's got to prove he can stay clean and be a team player, as well as perform like a guy who moves mountains, before I make that kind of investment. It just wouldn't be a smart move in my book. Let some other team take that risk and deal with his bullshit.

right, but doesn't it also make sense (for both sides really) to understand what the suspension is going to be? Not only for Allen's sake - so he can understand what he's going to make, but also for Carl's and the team's sake - to use in the negotiations, you are missing two games, we will pay you close to what you want, or you are missing 4-6 games, no way we pay you what you want, your off the field actions are costing us games.....

I see your point. I don't think he's average or mid-level. I think he's pretty talented and I like the fact that he plays hard EVERY play. But he's not an upper-echelon talent - not yet. He's very good but not great.

I wonder why LJ has not taken this tactic. They abused him last season. It could be seen as a sign he doesn't care. There could be a bad side to that.

Allen is showing his balls. & some of his ass as well

Yeah let's just forget that he led the entire league in tackles at the DL position. Not to mention fumble recoviries. Yeah the guy sucks.
