Florida Kayaker Towed for Hours by 11 Foot Hammerhead Shark (Video)

damn. extreme anglers indeed.

Florida Atlantic University student Adam Fisk, 22, was fishing in his kayak Sunday near Boynton Beach, Fla., when he hooked a pretty unusual catch: an 11-foot hammerhead shark, which took Fisk on a two-hour, 12-mile ride, captured on Fisk's helmet camera.

"Hooked a hammerhead in 50 ft. of water and got drug out to 250 ft.," Fisk wrote on Facebook, according to Reuters. "I took a South Florida sleigh ride today and I ain't talking Santa Claus." According to the video, at one point he was being chased by one hammerhead while being towed by the one on his line, which gives the Spinal Tap album Shark Sandwich a whole new meaning.

"I threw my bait out and went to reel my other one in so I wouldn't get tangled, and I just had time to pick up the rod before the other one already got picked up by that hammer," Fisk added.

Fisk belongs to Team Rebel Fishing, a group of extreme anglers.

I remember snorkeling in the Bahamas - in the canals, constantly concerned, I'm already not a huge water person - let alone when the ocean is filled with demons everywhere.

Sharks were like "surfing" the waves and coming right up to the beach. I was dying that I didn't have a fly rod, as they were chasing the shit out of anything that looked like a baitfish.
Isn't it about time we start hearing about surfers at New Smyrna Beach getting their legs and feet bitten?

Knowing that it would be that easy is the reason that I would have let it taken me for a ride as well. That being said, as soon as I seen that second shark running along next or coming from behind, that line would have been cut.

In the article I read in the Palm Beach paper, he actually let the shark tow him close to a convenient take out point, then he did cut the line.

Different headline if that was me:
"Arizona Man Sets 3 Guinness Records. Longest distance a fishing pole was thrown, fastest speed achieved in a kayak headed towards shore, most consecutive shots consumed at a beach side bar".

Yeah cool story, caught this a few days ago...these ocean going kayak fisherman are a ballsy bunch no doubt, what if that big sucker had decided to turn around and attack its tormenter?

Those things tip over very easily, or what if it was a marlin? those things are well known for leaping and stabbing at anglers aboard much larger craft... I would've cut the line the moment I saw how big that sucker was.

From shore like these guys? no prob... but not on some freakin kayak...

These guys fish for the sharks half mile out from the beach too. I'll be out there swimming while the guy hauls the meat out to set it out. Glad I didn't get caught in their line.

Was thinking the same thing but it looked like he was enjoying himself and just wanted the catch and underwater video of what he caught. Pretty sure the line was cut eventually.

If that attention whore landed a 10 foot hammerhead on that vessel he sure as shit would have caught it on video and posted it for the world to see.

Not sure if by "take out point" you mean that they were about to attack him or something I don't understand the reference to.
But if they were going to attack or something like that it would be hard to get out of that kayak. I remember always being told that if there was sharks around to try and go under water and be in a vertical position so you didn't look like food to the sharks. I just don't know if I could get out of the kayak and do all that. I doubt there was a place for a glock in there with him but I think I would try to either be still or paddle without splashing about.

No. Somewhere easily accessible from the road where he could get his kayak out and back on a "shuttle" vehicle easily and quickly without having to paddle forever. A matter of convenience, not safety.
