Do all teams carry a guy specifically for long snapping? I mean, can Winchester play center or any other Oline position?

Every team has a long snapper. Been that way for awhile. Giving him $10K more a game to avoid a bad snap seems like good money well spent. Especially when compared to…. Clark. How much we paying him per game?

Bill Belichick is a cheater and a fraud, but he once gave a dissertation in a press conference about how blocking for a long snapper is very different than other types of blocking, and that (along with larger roster sizes and the desirability of having a special teams unit practicing together all day) is why long snapping became a dedicated position. He said it was also because if the long snapper played another position and then got injured, it created problems for two units.

Well. NFL long snappers are amazing at their 1 job for sure. How often do you see them make a mistake? Not very often.

I don't have any problem paying the guy a few more bucks. While his agent said he's now the highest paid LS in the league, I doubt that his contract will break the bank. That long snap is a little harder than you think and he's often one of the 1st guys downfield on a punt.

Being the highest paid long snapper probably still only costs like a case of Natty Light and a back of cool ranch doritos...I'm sure the Chiefs can afford it. Good on him, he deserves it.

Highest paid long snapper before Winchester's new contract was is 1.2m per yr. Gotta figure that Winchester is making around 1.5-1.75m per yr or so.
