the coin flip decides possession, not the game.

You don't have to do it exactly like college. It would be pretty bad if you gave them the ball at the 40 or 35 like college but allow each team to start at the 20 and have to go 80 yards, then you HAVE to go for two. Still be pretty difficult to go to 2OT doing that.

It needs to change and I really like the Ravens proposal of spot and choose:

Quote:
It’s “spot and choose” overtime. Last year, the Ravens proposed a pair to possibilities based on the simple notion that, to start the extra session, one team chooses where the first drive of overtime will begin and the other team chooses whether to play offense or defense.

For example, one team picks (say) the -10 yard line. The other team would then have to choose between starting overtime in that spot on offense, or on defense.

The Bills got to call the coin toss.

The Bills had the #1 Defense.

Those are two advantages going into over time and its still not enough?

Huge credit to Josh Allen, not only for playing his ass off but mostly for NOT complaining about losing because of the OT rules. EXACTLY what Mahomes did when it happened to him.

I would not object if it were changed. Chiefs have proposed rule changes that were rejected initially and later adopted. Chiefs proposed adding a seventh playoff team in each conference several years ago before it was adopted last year. Chiefs proposed the change in jersey numbers that was allowed this season.

My idea for a slight rule change that would make it more fair, would be to have the Overtime coin toss before the game right after the Opening coin toss.

If both teams already knew who the OT coin toss winner was as the end of game situation played out it could affect strategy and add a lot of drama. You might have less OT games, if player safety is a concern.

Your defense has players. They're the highest paid side of the team for the Bills.

#1 Defense!

Make a ****ing play, jokers.
Buffalo had a ton of chances to win in regulation. Early in the game, Mahomes had 2 TD drives where he converted a bunch of 3rd and Long plays. Buffalo defense was not worn out in first half, but they did get beat on those plays by Mahomes’ ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat. KC even tried to give the game away with a kicker leaving 4 points on the field.

What if I told you Josh Allen had not lost a coin toss all year?

Do you think the Bills saw that as an advantage?

What if I told you winning the coin toss is a 52/48 advantage BUT having the #1 Defense surely improves those odds?

I'd prefer we go back to the old overtime rules. You have 15 minutes (or 10 minutes) and both teams go at until the end of overtime. If still tied they go at it again.

None of this "first team that scores wins" crap.

Although I am personally thrilled at the result of the Chiefs - Bills game.

Before the current rules were adopted, OT was LITERALLY sudden death. The first team to score, even if it was a FG, won.

Wow in playoff games the record is 10-1 for whoever wins the coin toss. Yeah it needs to change and I also get the NFL's position of not wanting these OT's to go on long because of injuries and the winning team has to play the next week.
