On November 22, 1963, when he was hardly past his first thousand days in office, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was killed by an assassin's bullets as his motorcade wound through Dallas, Texas. Kennedy was the youngest man elected President; he was the youngest to die....

Just wanted to post in memory of JFK.

I was only three months old when JFK was shot, but I've always found the stories people tell about where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news interesting.

A 4yr old child living in Raytown. Watched every bit of it...my grandma watched me & see loved some soap opera & I'd watch tv with her. Saw everything on tv Ruby shooting Oswald, funeral, etc....of course it's vague memory but I remember everyone crying & watching tv at the same time.

I was in the lockerroom after just finishing eighth grade phys ed class and the coach walked in and told us. I remember trying to figure out what must happened because the coach said something vague like he was at a school and was shot. I'm remember thinking it must of been an assembly and someone sitting in the audience must of shot him.

A couple of days later there was no school, might of been the weekend. I was sitting on the couch watching TV and they said Oswald the shooter was coming out and we would get a look at him. Soon as he came on camera Ruby ran up and shot him.

What would have been if JFK wasn't killed. That morning he had asked his Joint Chief of Staff to plan an exit stragedy for Vietnam. At the time we only had about 10,000 advisers in country. Had there been no Vietnam War 58,000 lives wouldn't of been cut short. Another 300,000 wouldn't of been disabled or wounded, marijuana wouldn't of been as prevalant, there would probably be almost no Vietnamese living here. Kennedy would of been elected to a second term, another Democrat might of followed, Nixon would of been a longshot, meaning no Watergate, no resignation, and so on.

That is something to think about. This country would be a considerably different place. No way to know if that's better or worse, but assuredly different if you were to remove Vietnam, LBJ, and Nixon from the mix, and adjust course on Civil Rights, space exploration, the Soviets, etc. Who knows?

I'm not saying that JFK was perfect, either, because after 8 years the nation may have tired of him, and we tend to view his presidency and Lincoln's as well in a more deified light simply due to the timing and circumstances of their deaths.

I was in the first grade, at home for the lunch hour when As the World Turns was interrupted by a report from Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. Later at school they announced his death "on the operating table."

The Zapruder film was shown on TV in 1979. It was obvious from that film that the official reports on the death of JFK were lies back in 1963.

A very good documentary on the subject of the 'magic bullet' was made a few years back on ABC. It debunked many conspiracy theories on the shooting itself. I still gotta believe the mob was behind this assassination. All the players were killed and have taken their secrets and answers to the grave.

i was 14 mo old so i have no real rememberence of it. though as i's growin' up i remember my parents and grand parents talkin about how the country would have been better off if'n he'd lived.
