My problem.

Hey all,

I'll keep this short and sweet, I've relapsed and I really would like to ask of the CP community to pray for me. Not trying to whore, but; I could really use some thoughts and prayers.

Thanks!

Honestly, that's pretty much what it boils down to. You have the disease. That's a fact. It's nothing to be ashamed of ... hell, there are some very cool people with that disease. Very cool people. But it does mean that, eventually, you'll wind up with only a limited number of choices in your life and they're all bad. Meetings can prevent that from happening.

I'm not trying to sound heartless here, as I have a tendency to be insensitive to this sort of thing, but....

Why do you keep looking here for help? The only one who can help you is yourself. Quit posting about it over and over and man up and do it for yourself. My family has a long history of substance abuse(including myself), and many of them reach out like this every time they have a relapse. But the thing I've discovered, is that most of them don't actually want to quit doing what they're abusing, they simply want the attention that comes with confessing their evil addictions every few months. And this process continues over and over until they either decide for themselves that they really want to quit, or they submit to the addiction and let it ruin their lives. The prayers and "good luck"s are great and all, but you live your own life and make your own decisions. You know what you need to do. At this point, encouragement is only going to get you so far. Either quit crying wolf, or get serious and do it.

You have the power in you to face this and conquer it once and for all. And that power doesn't originate from friends or family, it's internal. Loved ones can only gently nudge you in the right direction, you have to do the serious work and get there yourself. You have support. You have friends that really care about you. And they will continue to care about you and support you no matter what. You have reasons to fight and win. The only step left is convincing yourself that you can do it. Until you do that, it's only a matter of time until the next relapse.

Best of luck bud. Again, I really don't mean to sound heartless. Just do it.

Good.

Have you made the call yet? If you haven't, it's AA. They're in the book. Call the number and speak with the person on the line. They will tell you the nearest, earliest meeting. Do me a favor and don't post again until you can tell me when and where the closest meeting is.

Good Vibes headed your way SR.

I agree with most in here about AA meetings. I've known a few people who went to AA meetings and they really helped them out.

Good Luck man.

Hey SR hang in there. Take the advice of FAX. I have had a few patients that were in need of help. They went to AA and I actually got invited on one gals "sober for 2 years" thingy. I am guessing it isn't going to be easy man. You know what though, the right way to do anything is almost always the most difficult. That pretty much goes for anything in life. Good luck!

i quit drinking about april 15th of 2008. It's a bitch but only one person can do it and that's you. **** the meetings and bullshit feelings they'll pass just like anyother emotion. At the end of the day it's you and your choice on one else's. So drink yourself to death or put that ****ing bottle in the trash. They won't be a good or bad day to quit just today and the choices we make. When you want to you will one way or the other

Ironically, Mr. Simply Red has actually been going about this the hard way, Mr. tooge. Trying to quit drinking by yourself - without the support of a program is really, really difficult. Almost impossible. So, the desire is there.

If he does the 90 in 90, his life will improve in so many ways that he'll be astonished. He'll look back and kick himself for not doing it sooner, probably. And the entire process will be a lot easier than the method he's been using.

I don't know, Mr. skky man. In my experience, guys who try and beat the disease without a 12 step program tend to wind up bitter about life.

Seems like most were bitter before about something then usually about how they've let there lives go to bottom of the barrell. I think the 12-step program serves it's purpose but it still comes down to a choice. I'm not trying to knock programs I've been through one when I was younger. Whatever works for those who want to is great. Like anything in life the only power something has is what we give it. We just have to make a choice as to what that is.
