Adderall

Who's on it?

I have been on it for three months now (prescribed), and the shit has been life changing. So much more focused and motivated. I know it gets a bad rep, and is widely abused, but I think the pros outweigh the cons with this one.

What say you?

I'm not sure what the problem with that would be. They are humans. I would rather my doctor be high on adderall during a long rotation than exhausted.

I'm not saying that you need to get back on it, but that really isn't the "normal" experience of a person with a proper dosage (well, not the super high heart rate and irritability at least. Loss of appetite is common).

Of course, it also affects people who actually NEED it (clinical ADHD) differently than people who are just taking it to try to increase performance. That's why a lot of people who have ADHD dislike taking it, because it evens them out and often makes them feel calm/boring compared to how they normally feel, whereas people without ADHD who take it feel focused, energized, and sometimes hyper from it.

Indeed. I had to tinker with my dosages for a spell when I started but once I got dialed in on what works I have been crushing it. That was a number of years ago. i fought it all through adolescence and college. Looking back, if I had known that my brain needed this stuff to function in modern society and how big of an impact it would really have, I would have done things differently. People get all jacked up on it and it just makes me want to kill some spread sheets and do some deep dive research down the rabbit hole.

Fact is, my brain doesn't function the way other people's do. Period. My underlying problem IS my brain chemistry. My brain jumps into and out of a variety of material at any given moment in time. Holding a thought is easy for almost everybody but for me, I'll randomly dive down a rabbit hole in my own brain during a conversation or staff meeting only to emerge from my internal thoughts 30 minutes later wondering WTF I just missed. The upside is that I come up with great and creative ideas. The downside is that I missed a ton of shit. When you're in school, brains like that are punished. Aggressively.

I've heard all of the nonsense about food, drink, exercise, self-discipline and it's all bullshit coming from people who don't cope with what I cope with. You might as well tell a fish not to swim. It's baseless and stupid.

I don't think anybody wants to do that shit. But it did make me actually WANT to learn about music history in college. And I hated that class.

I've taken it a couple of times as an adult, and it just hasn't had as strong of an effect as it did when I was in college/younger. Might have been the dose, though.
