Herm was a bad coach, but had an eye for DB's and so Flowers and Carr would be his picks, not Carl's. marty has too good a draft history to believe he didn't have major role in the drafts while he was there.
It was my understanding that DV wanted Tyler Brayton with that first pick not Troy P ...

Should have known the chiefs would screw up the pick anyway. I guess this is where I got that from:

"The Chiefs actually had the 16th pick in the draft but, not seeing a defensive player who fit their eye, they traded down to 27. That would not be worth a side-note except Pittsburgh is the team that traded up to 16 ... and with that pick they took safety Troy Polamalu, one of the most dominating defensive players in the NFL."

"Johnson was drafted in the first round with the 27th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft as insurance for the Kansas City Chiefs, who were unsure if Priest Holmes would be healthy or even sign a contract extension. Johnson was drafted over the objection of head coach Dick Vermeil, who wanted to select a defensive player, and despite the lack of recent NFL success by Penn State running backs."

yeah at least LJ had some productive seasons for us... I doubt we would say the same thing about Brayton.... but damn that passing up Polamalu still stings

yeah, if only there was a way to go back in time so we can get the chance to draft a playmaking safety...wait, no need, we can just do it this time!

I remember being nothing short of amazed that DJ dropped to 15... He was supposed to be top-10. As a matter of fact, I remember pre-draft wishing we had a higher pick so we could get HIM, and in my head thinking, "Maybe they'll trade up..."

I won't ever be upset we made that pick, even if it didn't work out ideally.

I danced around my house when DJ fell to 15. Hopefully he gets his shit together. It's obvious the guy could be great.

I wasn't disappointed that we picked DJ....we needed defense for sure but passing on a potential franchise QB really bothers me.... and I really liked Aaron Rodgers coming out of Cal
