Seems to me the cop was justified.

But honest to God, jaywalking? That's what started all this? I (and alot of other people) "jaywalk" directly in front of a Boston Police Patrol Supervisor vehicle every day.

I hear ya. Sometimes cops just need something to do. If they wanna **** with you, they'll stop you for jaywalking. Most of the time they wont because they dont wanna deal with writing the ticket for something so petty.

But then again, i got TWO traffic tickets on my bicycle in one freaking week.....so...nothing surprises me.

I kind of disagree with the majority here...

It's ****ing jaywalking...why is jaywalking even illegal? That's like giving someone a speeding ticket for going 57 in a 55...

That cop obviously has some anger issues...

Even though OBVIOUSLY it's not bright to do what the 17 year old girl did...but damn...that just looked ridiculous.

Can you seriously not figure out why jaywalking is Illegal? And he didn't punch her for jaywalking. Maybe if the chick didn't get all ballsy and try to walk away while the cop was issuing a ticket.....

I'm now more confident in my position than I would have been had Jesus himself come down and issued an edict vouching for me.

Generally if you're faced with a moral dilemma or a discussion as to what is just and equitable, taking the opposite position as Hootie is going to take you a long way.

Might have been that he saw them jay walking and told them to go to his car. Might have been that he was just going to give them a warning. Then they got lippy and stupid, so then it became a matter of respecting his authority. Then it escalated into what you saw on the video.

Either way, the punch is justified. Don't argue with cops...even Chris Rock knows that much...NSFW...
