Draft Lottery

Should the NFL have a draft lottery, NBA style?

Why or why not?

Not the way you're trying to use it.

Your point is invalid. But then, every point you make is invalid.

Go chug some antifreeze, noob.

Brian Windhorst or one of his hosts had a good solution on his pod. Basically you only grade draft position for the first half or so of the season when pretty much all teams are trying anyway. Then how you perform in the final 25% or 50% whatever of the season won't matter.

Then you could get rid of the lottery because teams would be decentivized from tanking.

Or maybe Joeckel would have been in a different environment and thrived to become a perennial all-pro.

More and more, I think about how guys' careers can be changed by where they end up and the system and coaching that they're in, and how they fit in with their teammates' skills. I know we've discussed it with quarterbacks in the past, but it certainly applies to other positions as well.

Zack Baun fascinates me for that reason. The guy couldn't even get a starting job for the team that drafted him (New Orleans), and then he went to Philadelphia and immediately became an all-pro. I doubt that Baun fundamentally changed, so it had to be an exogenous factor in his environment.
